I recently had my first can clear NFA jail (after 109 days ) and during the first mag I had a bullet strike on the end cap.

I have a new barrel from faxon the can will be going on and would like to check it before I shoot it anymore. Does anyone around Garland have a 5.56 alignment rod I can use?

Pic of the bullet strike.

{I have never heard of an alignment rod, that is new to me, but I haven't kept up with industry for a few years...}
Now why would you not be able to simply make your own alignment rod?

Geissele and Surefire have them but they are pretty expensive. The G one is $75 and the Surefire is $79. More then I want to spend to use once or twice.

I may be able to make one in some way using drill rod, it would meet the diameter tolerance requirements but I am not sure about the straightness tolerances.

I've been using both of these for years and years. Buy three of each and you'll still be cheaper than anyone else

13/64 (Good for 223/5.45x39)

19/64 (Good for 30 cal)

You and I need to get together and go bowling--I was at Garland public this weekend fighting a can.  I have a similar problem with my new Suppresor--no one has alignment rods and everyone just looks at me funny. (Dead Air)

Anyway definitly a pro tip on those rods--rather than those expensive ones you can get high quality (albeit LONG) steel rods at https://www.mcmaster.com/ (or the above site--its the sizes that are important)

I even emailed myself the stuff from work based on searches  here.

.2031" - P/N 8893K187 - Good general purpose rod for 22 caliber suppressor alignment - should work well for distinctly undersized match .22LR bores (think CZ452/455 at .210-.212" bore diameter), but otherwise may be a slightly loose fit;

.212" - P/N 8893K191 - Better fit for many standard 22 caliber bores (.22LR at .217" bore diameter, .223/5.56 at .219" bore diameter, etc.)

.250" - P/N 8893k204 - Good fit for 6.5mm Creedmoor/Grendel bores (.256" bore diameter);

.295" - P/N 8893K217 - Good fit for 7.62x39, .308, 300BLK and most Western 30 caliber bores (.300" bore diameter)

8893K219- works .300 blk/ .308 - tiny, tiny bit of play- works perfect

.339" - P/N 8893K229 - Good fit for 9mm (.346" bore diameter)

8893K231- works 9mm- small amount of play but still works just fine

.4219" - P/N 8893K252 - Slightly looser fit for .45 ACP (.442" bore diameter). Stepping up to a .4375" rod (P/N 8893K254) may generally work, but could be too tight for rare cases.

338 < .330 (based on .338 - 2 * .004 for the lands).

I felt like such an ass when I couldnt get mine working and was having trouble.  And everyone else is like "its just barrel harmonics" or "you have bad trigger pull" or "your resting the barrel on something"

So what exactly do these rods do AFTER a baffle strike?  I can see using them BEFORE.

The suppressor is going on a different barrel then it was on when it had the baffle strike. I'd like to make sure the new barrel won't have any issues.

It wasn't a terrible strike. It barely touched it. But I don't want to see it happen again. Attachment Attached File
