Wife and I are taking her dad to the Indian casino in Cherokee in the near future. Not looking forward to it but it's a bucket list thing for him.

From what I can determine, permitted concealed carry is allowed on tribal lands. I can't determine if it is allowed in the casino, but I presume it isn't. Their website does not address this so I will be calling to confirm. Anyone know if the casino is posted for no CC?

Any other words of advice about the place/area?

LOL, I live in Cherokee County but have never set foot there!
I read in last week's local paper that they are planning a 275 million expansion project!
Still subject to the Chief's final approval I believe.

Outside of the casino, it's touristy as hell. Lots of cheap shit for sale and geared towards the crowds that visit the GSMNP.

We went through late last year. Everything outside the Rez was pretty much a wasteland. Never been in said casino either.

Yep, totally agree.

Outside of the casino proper, it's like traveling back to the 60's or 70's. I remember going as a kid back in the mid 70's when I was in summer camp. Fast forward to about 4 years ago and not having been there in between, it was the same as I remembered.

Been a few years but what like best was the stocked trout waters! You don't need state lic, just have to by a Res permit. Back then they stocked the rivers every tues and thurs.

We stopped by there few years ago, dont remember any signs, I know I carried in there anyway. There was no metal detectors, just security to check age.

Thank you for the recent information. Much appreciated.

How is security there? Pops is probably bringing a bunch of cash and might also bring a bunch home. He has a history of doing pretty well from what I hear.

I'd imagine these days most gambling involves electronic funds/transfers/deposits? Pardon the ignorance but I don't gamble or go to casinos. We're only going because he is handicapped and in a wheelchair. Wife is driving and I'm security...

I stayed at the hotel on site and didn't leave the property while I was in town. The only real security I encountered were security guards at the entrance to the casino who are not much more than mall cops. There may have been other security outside the property or a secret force I'm unaware of, but there wasn't anything impressive.

As for electronic funds and all that, most people carry cash into the casino and leave with empty pockets. Typically no electronic transfers unless people are pulling money from an ATM. Maybe the super high rollers are different and have an account at the casino, but the average person probably just carries cash or a debit card for withdrawals.

As someone who has gambled a lot all over the country the last 15 years, I wouldn't have any concerns gambling there. You can drop off pops at the front door, get him inside, and you should be fine. The only sketchy areas I saw were some of the poor areas on the reservation but off casino property. And you can carry there.

As stated previously. Posted no CCW signs at entrances. No metal detectors and just ID checkers at the entrances.  Like all Casinos cameras are king for “security” so if something bad goes down it’ll be recorded but I don’t know how fast I’d expect help.  Overall casino area feels relatively safe though.  Only area I’ve felt a little naked without my EDC was walking through the parking garage late at night.

Bonus right now is they don’t allow smoking indoors so you can actually breathe inside.

Went with my younger brother for one night about a year or so ago. Seemed safe enough but I don't remember whether they had signs posted for weapons/handguns.

The absolute last thing the tribe wants is to have word get around that people are getting robbed at or near the casino.

They just went ahead and forced masks throughout their property a week or so ago. Take that as you will.

My room was non-smoking, but it smelled like cigarettes. The hotel is almost from the time of Elvis Presley, everything is old and not updated. although the bed is very comfortable and the lights with usb in case you don't have a local outlet yet. Queue for checkout.
Lived on the top floor, didn't get charged for a late check in after 00:00 the first night, thanks for that! Location isn't bad if you're by car, but it's not a strip. There are a lot of rests and Jaxen shows inside. A lot of people go to the hotel for that as a tour. Someone hit the jackpot at the casino in front of me!
