Freightliner doesn't control the dealer service shops (according to them). And I asked them "then why would I buy another rig on a Custom Chassis if I can't get good support after 10 years?" They did not reply. Unfortunately, the Custom Chassis is one of the better bases for Diesel Pusher motorhomes. Which is why I'm now hunting for a Super C on a different chassis.
The other issue I have is that I've got a Cat C7 engine. If you know about CAT, DEF and emission controls, then you know that CAT hasn't built OTR engines for some time now. All their effort goes into heavy equipment and marine engines. CAT got totally out of motorhome motor business in 2008 (I think). As a result, finding a CAT certified mechanic is getting harder and harder. The vast majority of the commercial trucks that had CAT motors are no longer on the road. You can't swing a dead cat without hitting a Cummins mechanic.
Sorry, OP, for the thread tangent.

Too bad you aren't in the Austin area, I'd send you to my friend's shop, Austin Diesel Specialists. He's got guys that can work on just about any Diesel engine or rig, even weird/unusual ones like Misubishi, Volvo, Mercedes, etc. Their bread and butter is PowerStroke and Cummins of course, but they do some Duramax, Isuzu, Detroit Diesel, etc.
Anyway, I certainly understand why you want to get something better supported though. Nothing sucks more than being 1/2 way across the country in some little one stoplight town and have a breakdown and nobody for 400 miles has a clue what to do.
Oh... and as for Freightliner... They re-sell Mercedes Sprinter vans... My brother in law lives in the Houston area and he's a Mercedes mechanic (at the dealership in the Woodlands). He used to work at the dealership over on 45 near Spring. That Mercedes dealership does all the nearby Freightliner dealer's Sprinter work because they don't want to pay to train or hire a guy that knows the Sprinter. Seems kind of weak to me. Not that it is unusual for that sort of thing to happen, but I'd be kind of pissed if I bought from a dealer and found out they were farming out all their repair work somewhere else.
