I know we've kicked around the idea of a HTF meetup for years, but I think partly due to low HTF activity, it's never precipitated.

I'm not sure if anyone has followed the American Pioneer Corps thread in GD, but it's a new organization that is focused on networking in your local community and developing personal skills to help make you a well rounded and prepared individual. Read up here: https://www.ar15.com/forums/general/American-Battle-Buddies-American-Pioneer-Corps-Guidelines/5-2291145/?

The initial activities each local group organizes involves a hike. You do not need to follow the guidelines to participate.  Participation by anyone and in any capacity is encouraged, but if you want to work toward developing your skills in the prescribed manner, the hike will adhere to the following:

-Hike at least 6 miles
-Maintain >3mph pace
-Carry a pack with 45lbs (alternatively 35lbs plus rifle) not including water; since this will be in Baton Rouge, I propose that we don't hike with slung rifles and either put them in our packs or just carry the extra 10lbs

I am proposing we hike the Hooper Rd. Park trail (http://www.brec.org/index.cfm/park/HooperRoad) on either Saturday, September 19 or Sunday, September 20.  The hike will occur on Saturday September 19 at the Comite River Park. http://www.brec.org/index.cfm/park/Comite

Gonna @ some locals since the forum doesn't get much traffic. Starting with some of y'all that participate the most.

@alpha0815
@HEdad
@olekennyroy
@77Bronc
@scotchymcdrinkerbean

I think you can only do 5 @ per post, I might have to spam my own thread.

@toddmtnbkr added. I’m in. Preference would be Saturday. I’m out of pocket Sunday am.

I know Comite quite well, and would suggest that trail instead of Hooper. But either would be good.

I hiked the Comite trail myself last weekend, and would certainly be willing to do it again. My wife just saw that Hooper is having a bike meetup next Sat anyway, so it would be better to do Comite.

Sounds like we have at least three people that can do it Sat. So let’s make that official.

Want to target a start time of 8:30?  If anyone is going to drive it, I don't want to start too early, but don't want to finish too late. Hike time will be approx. 2hrs.

8:30 works for me. I've never done a real hike before so it should be interesting

Copy that.
Comite 0830-1030.

Hooper hustle is 9/19 @ 0900. So yeah. Hooper is a no go. I’m a member of BRAMBA too.

We can add 1 mile at the 4.5 mile marker if we want to (out and back in connection trail). We can assess and decide at that point depending on how the crew is doing.

I may wear a PC too, no mags etc.
see y’all there.
Looking forward to it.

I’ll post up in BRAMBA fb group that we’ll be out there, hiking, counterclockwise (as MTB traffic will be clockwise).

I’d like to start working toward the APC hiking requirements, but if you’re not confident you can do it or you’re just not interested in APC, you don’t need to pack weight to participate.

I did a test run yesterday to make sure I could. It was tough but doable. I’m in reasonable shape though.

Thanks guys

Part of what Ben has set up with the establishment of the APC is to encourage us to get out and regularly do these activities.

It won’t be every weekend, but my hope is that we can get a solid group together to meetup at least once a month.

Keep an eye out in this HTF for future updates.

I subscribed to this thread.
I rarely post but am on here every day.
If anyone here is interested I try to make most 3 gun matches in Poplarville Ms first Sundays and occasionally attend Tuesday night practice session at FRC Range in B.R. on Choctaw.
I've done a decent amount of hiking with my son's Boy Scout group last few years but recently started having issues with Arthritis in pelvis joints. Getting OLD SUCKS.

@Captain_Morgan

Hey I do appreciate the mention for this get together, but with the current C-19 issue I will have to pass.  It sounds like a very worth while plan and will benefit everyone greatly.

I do wish yall good luck and good weather.

I am 62 years old and trying my best to keep my exposure minimal due to the virus....getting my exercise by biking the St Tammany Trace by my self

Take care and stay safe   Keep us updated on the progress and outcome

I completely understand

Once all this blows over, we can also hit some ranges or do other activities.

What app do you use to record your hikes? I am going to try to find time this week to go see how I do and work out any bugs I find with my setup.

AllTrails

I have an iphone, and the only complaint I had is that it apparently doesn’t do elevation change very accurately. Otherwise it tracked everything I wanted plus it will tell you what trails are local to you.

I’d love to guys and I’m maybe as of now.

My wife is prego with our first and it’s been a rough first trimester. Not sure I’ll be able to get away but I’m playing it by ear.

This is a great idea and would love to try to do more of these.

I’m supposed to have a work weekend this weekend, the 19th of course. The dozer showed up yesterday and unless this little hurricane changes course again, I’ll be in MS all weekend. If that changes, I’m in and I’ll certainly be in going forward.

I decided I am going to pack weight, just not 45lbs since this is a first real hike for myself. Looking forward to it.

HEdad, no worries if you can’t make it this time. Hopefully MS comes out OK. We’ll do this again in the future.

Bcamp, I agree. Don’t overdo it. Bring water though! The past couple times I tried, I sweat my ass off.

Main concern would be potentially tearing up the trails.
Not sure how much foot traffic would do that or not, but I know we strongly discourage MTB out there, when it’s wet.

Thoughts?

Definitely agree.
Foot traffic is much more controllable (staying out of wet holes, by going around them).

I’m gonna head out there.

White 4Runner.

Be advised though. BREC and/or BRAMBA does lock the gate some times, due to poor trail conditions.

I don’t think we get together with Arkansas folks too much

I’d be down for a drive somewhere else in state.

Damn, I knew Shreveport was “the far north” for you South Louisiana guys, but calling us Arkansans? That’s going too far!
