For those of you watching the goings on in Virginia, I wanted to take a quick informal poll of who might be up for a meet up and hike.
Our 1st hike is in the books!!! Our next hike is February 23rd. Time: 0730 Place: Sunrise Mountain Loop Trailhead Trail Sunrise Mountain Loop Mountain Trail Map The trail is between 4 and 4.5 miles. The footing is similar to our original hike, with dirt, sand, and rock. The hike will be led by @Spyderboy03 who hiked it with @dredscott this past week. Bring plenty of water and good footwear! |

I’m game. Live in NW Phoenix, but work in Sdale, so could meet after work as well. Lots of trails in my AO. I’m outta shape but committed to not being that way for much longer. I’m also in the Payson area often if folks want to ruck near there.

Morning bump for AZ buddies. Please let us know if you are interested in a hike and meetup.
I'm in surprise and would be down. I have a bad back, so long walks on the beach aren't what gets my juices flowing, but willing to meet up and hike as far as I'm able to.
Ill leave this open and bump it daily until the end of the week. We can float some ideas for locations and times that will work for everyone.
Thanks for all the replies so far! |
I may be interested.
Been considering trying to put together a monthly training meetup on public land, but couldn't get much interest on the various local FB groups. |
Id be in, as stated above not as tough as I once was and have limited free time this time of year but will do my best to make it.
Sir James... |
I'm in Queen Creek and interested.
With a couple of days advance notice I can attend. |
Morning bump! Let’s keep the interest going, post up here. With the holidays, is anyone opposed to picking a date in early January?

Anyone down in the Tucson area? It maybe hard for me to get up to Phoenix on a regular basis. But im sure I could swing the testing and Battle Buddy cheak off days. It would be nice tonget togeather with some fellow ARFcomers

Just starting to think about places. Deem Hills is in NW Valley (I-17 and Happy Valley area). Has a decent network of trails, with moderate elevation gains.
Given it is in Phoenix, and is a city park, here's the relevant firearms code: https://www.codepublishing.com/AZ/Phoenix/?compiled-Phoenix24/Phoenix24.html Norterra is near there for after hike beverages and food. Front Pourch brewing is also nearby, family owned, and good peeps. |

Here we are at weeks end all. It doesn't look like we are really grouped on one side of the city.
What I would propose is that we plan to move the hikes around the city to share the burden of travel. That being said, I would also propose that the team members in their "area" recommend a hike area that they are familiar with and can describe. Length, elevation and elevation change during the hike, water availability, etc. That way all the members can determine if it fits with their capabilities or not. The other item we should try and figure out is frequency and target days of the week. Night or evening hikes for those with night vision are possible, as well as perhaps a weekend combo hike and shoot in a more remote area of the desert for those interested. To be clear, we are NOT looking to re-create bootcamp here!!! Just something fun and relaxing, meet some new friends etc. Everyone pop in their availability over the weekend as well as suggested hike locations and Ill collect them in the OP for easy reference. Thanks everyone. Looking forward to meeting you all. |

NW metro valley. Open to the idea if it fits in.
Less than in shape. |

I don't mind traveling within an hour of Phoenix. Tuesdays work best for me but with a little notice I could attend other days.
San Tan Regional Park is a great place for a hike. We could do a quick up and down of the mountain there, it's only about 35 min up and not too difficult. There are also tons of rolling trails if guys wanted to do a longer hike, sky is the limit how long you want to be there. I've hiked all the trails and am very familiar with the park there. Think it's $7-8 for a day parking fee. San Tan Flat is nearby if guys want to grab some food or beers afterwards. |

San Tan Valley checking in - would be in depending on work....

How does everyone feel about doing something in the South Mountain area for the 1st Sunday in January?

Hey all,
303 and Happy Valley here. Open to hiking when available, with family and work it can be difficult but always good to meet new people and grind out some miles. Mostly available on the weekends or later at night. Let me know, Dan |

The first pinned thread has a map for your locale.
To make grouping kind of easier. I get winded flying off the handle. Have to work up to actually hiking. |
What is the area like down there hiking wise? Decent trail? Options for a shorter hike to start, say in the 2 to 3 mile range?

Correct. You can go to the top and back down on the front and it's not to long distance wise but elevation gain is high. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes |

I do Piestewa Peak every weekend. So a little incline wouldnt be bad.
I’m game to meet up anytime. I’m In the Casa Grande area. The Picacho hike isn’t bad at all.

Is AZ Battle Buddies more formalized than this thread yet?
Might be beneficial to form local informal "squads." Unfortunately I work weekends right now, but I'd be down for some weekday hikes in north Maricopa County or central AZ, and I do know some legal shooting spots that can accomodate a group from pistol to precision rifle distance. |
I'm up in North Phoenix. I have no issue driving to meet up. I will be at the first hike.
I’m going to try to make this. I have other commitments during the day but I might be able to sneak out.
