CPR and Stop The Bleed class begins at 0900. Be there by 0845 for sign up. Bring $25 cash for the certification fee. Attendees will receive a Stop The Bleed trauma kit.
This is a combination CPR and Stop The Bleed class.
This is a requirement for Pioneer Candidate 1st class.
Stop The Bleed teaches how to save a life before someone bleeds out:
(1) How to use your hands to apply pressure to a wound
(2) How to pack a wound to control bleeding
(3) How to correctly apply a tourniquet.
These three techniques will empower you to assist in an emergency and potentially save a life.

Directions
There are no restaurants in Mound Valley so we will be
BRINGING A SACK LUNCH
to eat after the class.
The hike is at Big Hill Lake. We'll park at the
south trailhead of the Ruth Nixon Memorial Trail There's a single seater flush toilet as well as running water to fill bottles if needed. Water quality is not the best so I'd suggest filling up at home that morning instead.
Please leave the rifles at home. The area is extremely conservative and pro gun but a group of men patrolling the trails like an infantry squad is not going to win us any converts.
Here are direct map links to the trailhead parking area.
Apple MapsGoogle MapsWe'll hike the one mile long Ruth Nixon Memorial Trail then hop onto pavement for 1/3 mile before hitting the
Big Hill Lake Equestrian Trail Hiking is allowed on the equestrian trail.
We'll hike out approximately 1.8 miles on the equestrian trail before turning around and returning to our start point for 6 miles total.
Trails have some moderate ups and downs but the sections Lomshek walked were pretty tame.
The equestrian trail has some tall grass so you should wear full length pants and use bug spray to keep ticks off.
The weather report is for temps in the 70's to 80's and a chance of rain. If we end up getting a lot of rain we'll probably skip the trails due to extreme muddy conditions and stick to the road. Rain would turn the trails into a soupy mess because of the soil type.
Let me know if you can attend or if you have any questions.
Looking forward to seeing everyone there!
