We are finalizing our plans for our 4th Hike and have looked at several dates but it looks like 17/18 will work well for most folks.

We will also be targeting the Kansas City Area this time around and @KC215 has a location or two that seem to work well including Ernie Miller Park and Killcreek park.

If you would like to attend please let myself know and I will get you on the list.
your week!
Have a great rest of

Final Date and time has been set at Ernie Miller Park.

909 North, KS-7, Olathe, KS 66061

Meet up Time is 10 am on the 18th. No rifles at this event bring an extra 10 pounds instead.

If you have ANY questions please post here in this thread, IM myself or KC215, or send an email at [email protected]

Good luck!

Let's try to get the date pinned down, where we can get the most participation.  I think we need at least 3 people.  I know the 18th or the next weekend(4/23-24) would be best for me.  I will link this into MOHTF to see if there would be interest for any of those on the other side....

I think we need to do 6 mi with 45lbs in a pack in under 2 hrs.  I want to find the simplest place for us to accomplish this, as I have done it once before.  I want to get to Ernie Miller and hit their trails, as it will be a true trail hike for the most part, I think.  The streamway trails park around Shawnee Mission Park would be fairly easy, and we wouldn't be out of place with packs, as I have seen what appears to be BSA hiking with packs.
Anyone feel free to chime in with any tips, suggestions....

Shawnee Mission is probably the most accessible, but the walking trails are typically crowded with bike riders as well, especially in April if the weather is really nice.  So that's something you may want to consider.  That place will be crowded if the weather is nice.

Ernie Miller is a great location, and has some good steep elevation changes, water crossings, but as you get further into the woods the trails become single file.

Heritage Park out in Olathe may also be a good contender if paved paths are acceptable.  IIRC the trail around the lake is 1.5 miles.

These are all 3 parks I take my kids to some what regularly, so if you have any specific questions I might be able to answer them.

I'm not sure if I'll be able to make those dates, but I'm working on it.

Wherever you think is best.

The APC 6 mile/2 hour requirement is based off of a road march not rugged trail hike.  I point that out just to make sure everyone understands it doesn't have to be some kind of rugged hiking trail.  A tame family walking path or mild trail is totally fine.

Based on my April schedule I doubt if I'll be able to attend but I will be at the May event.

Got it. @kc215 do you mind if I add 17/18th to the title and if we need to bump it we can do so later?

I’m not sure if I will make this one, but I am hoping to make either this or the may hike. I will probably be picking one of the two, as spring is shaping up to be super busy.

ETA: I will see you boys in May - I have some commitments that I can't bail on this coming weekend.

Dunno if I can make this one fellas.  Pops needs help fixing Grandma's house.

ETA:  Ain't gonna make this one guys.  Hope to see ya at the next one!

Hopefully you’ll get a third!

I’m halfway through teaching a two day Project Appleseed class.  Otherwise I’d be there.

Fun
I shot shitty pistol yesterday at a benefit shoot with sheriffs Dept.  But I missed fast and wasn’t last.  I have that Strava app to document for today

Good luck today guys!  Even if its just the two of you as I'm sure you know KC has a huge population and we've got quite a few members up there.  If you find Ernie Miller works great for a hike, I'm sure we can have better attendance in the future.   I think we only had 3 KS members at our first hike.

At the very least I'll show up next time.

Crying week old babies and a tired wife are occupying my time at moment.

It was a great hike!

I appreciate KC 215 showing up and mapping out the trails.

I’ll definitely bring my family back to Ernie Miller park!

Thanks again for an awesome hike!

When I say great time, I don't mean a blistering pace.  We were polite and stayed off the closed trail for one pass, then said fuck it.  It wasn't a goat path, but wasn't a RR trail either.  Little muddy.
