My son is stationed at Fort Lewis (Army E-5). He has been there since December. He called today and was having trouble with his Mazda Tribute not starting. The engine turns over, but won't fire up.

Anyway, anyone have a recommendation regarding an honest mechanic in that area? From here in Florida, my guess is fuel pump/filter, but being 3k miles away makes it hard to diagnose.

If he has AAA and can get a tow, there is a shop in Spanaway called Elite Automotive. Apparently it's the cat's meow.

Thanks for the info. At least the car acted up in the parking lot, so it can sit until he gets back in a few days. He nor I have any clue about that area of the country. I’ll forward the suggestion.

Fuel pump fuse?

The auto skill center on post can help diagnose an issue and then he can repair it for basically pennies on the dollar of a shop. And also have more self satisfaction. Odds are someone in his unit is a gear head and can help him out for a case of beer.

Sounds good. He just got there from Texas the third week of December and was sent to California two weeks later. He was there for six weeks, so he is just getting settled in and finding out who is who.
