He wouldn't tolerate BLM riots in Detroit and put an end to the violence.

He actually did a good job in Detroit with the protests last summer, he gave the protestors some space, but if they stepped out of line he shut it down. Detroit Police Department actually caught on and realized it was mostly out side agitators. My mom some it up perfectly "Its nice we did not even hear about Detroit when the national news talked about the unrest."

Craig was chief in Cincinnati before Detroit. He was amazing.  You are lucky to have him. I would vote for James Craig in a heartbeat

Potential Michigan Governor Candidate James Craig Wants ‘Stronger Gun Laws,’ to ‘Restrict’ Sales, 10-Round Limit
View Quote

Former Detroit Police Chief James Craig is being encouraged to run for Michigan governor by Republican power brokers against incumbent Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, while his record is anything but conservative.

In 2013, Craig arrived in Detroit from Cincinnati, where he also was police chief. While head of the department there, Craig partnered with gun control activists, called States United to Prevent Gun Violence, in a call for “stronger gun laws.”

WCBE reported in 2013:

Craig says Congress should pass an assault weapons ban, control Internet ammunition sales and require background checks at gun shows.  But Craig says he does not oppose legal gun ownership.

According to WLWT, Craig also wanted “a ban on magazines with a capacity of more than 10 rounds.” The news station said Craig argued “Gun laws need more teeth.”

In 2012, Craig said “the country needs to do a better job restricting gun sales,” WVXU reported, and stated his opposition to arming school employees.

“Certainly we can look at other options, but when you talk about arming school teachers or a school administrator without the appropriate training, and training is not just going to a target range and being able to hit center mass,” Craig said. “How do you deal with a crisis? We’re talking about a place with children.”

Craig’s positions put him in line with leading Democrats, such as President Joe Biden and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who are once against calling for restrictions to the Second Amendment.

“Magazines holding more than 10 rounds are used in assault rifles, which the gun industry calls modern sporting rifles, and which are targeted in Biden’s proposed ban,” Forbes said in March.

Or just vote for the republican no matter what like you've been doing for decades, and wonder why they keep taking a fat shit on you and your rights and ignore you every two to four years.

Unfortunately in much of American politics; one is forced to not vote for a candidate, but to vote against the more evil of two 'lesser' candidates.

MHO, YMMV, etc.  Be well.

Seems like he saw the light when he made public statements urging Detroit residents to get concealed carry licenses and start carrying guns. So, take your unresearched cherry picked turd elsewhere.

True, but I doubt he was thinking about running for governor 6 years ago when he said that.
