Anyone going to the Allen show saturday afternoon?

Let's go Brandon!

No need for a couch. Working tonight 11p-7a, so i'll sleep a few hours before i hit the road. Should be able to get there in under 2 hours though. Next weekend i'll be set up in Longview though sharpening and trading or selling my accumulated gun junk, at least that is less than 1/2 and hour from the house.

Went to the show today. Sold two items I wanted to sell. A Colt Commando 38 spc, and a Rem Model 48, for a fair price. Saw mostly black rifle stuff and maybe 25% traditional bolt guns, shotguns etc. Some cool pistols and Crusader Arms had some machine gun type stuff, but I didn't see if they were actual full auto or not. Got that bug out of my system a couple of decades ago. Was not really looking at prices as I am kind of thinning the herd at the moment. Too many duplicates of stuff I'm not likely to shoot anytime soon, so it's time to use the magic and turn them into things I WILL shoot and use.
I asked one of the people from Premier Gun Shows and was told that the reason for the demise of the Big Town show was due to the building being sold and the new owners not wanting to renew the lease. Shame as it was a decent show after the building rehab several years ago. Was not that long ago that you could go to a different gun show every weekend for about 2 months without duplicating a location, albeit within about a 2 hour radius drive time. Now we're back to 1-2 a month in DFW. I stopped going to the FW show when we got shat on in re parking. Seems like everyone BUT the gun shows got parking priority, yet they've been there since atleast 199? when I started going. And I'm not going out to South Fork for the DACA show as the reports I've gotten on them is pretty meh. The shows have been the best place for me to sell stuff over the years though and I will continue to give them my business. |

Dinner. For some years now we have tried to gather ARFCOMers for lunch or dinner, even sometimes breakfast, around the shows. There are more than a couple of ARFCOM vendors who also come out for dinner, and they have vendor friends. Trying to get these two groups to go to the same place at the same time is like herding cats, particularly as vendor wives will change their mind at the last minute and steer the entire dealer group to a complete different location.
One course of action is to get all interested parties - vendors, vendors' wives, & ARFCOMers in an email list in which restaurants are nominated for the coming week, voted on & then published. Barring disaster, that's where we're going, and if someone doesn't like it, they can hang. Another course of action is to divorce ourselves from the vendors, and schedule ARFCOM dinners after the shows. @Lug1 has been particularly successful at scheduling ARFCOM events. However, I have to say, most of our attendance at dinner is from the dealer group. If we cut them out, I don't know how much attendance we will have. I am leaning towards the 1st option, but would like to hear y'all's opinions. |

I have been to a few. They ultimately turn me off due to various circumstances. I am not above going to a gun show, but its not something I seek out. However if I am hosting an event people are invited. Those who choose to come, come on, those who don't not a big deal to me. I don't judge. I am very careful in how I schedule an event. It is usually dictated by my FD schedule. Those I attend, and those I host. It is ME CENTRIC. I don't go places far away that keep out late the night before shift. I may very well go to events the night before shift that are close by and easy to get home early. Gun shows, the only way I am going to a gun show is if there is some kind of group event and the group makes it fun. I am not going there to shop or pick through things or to have another dork tell me I will be working for him after the boogaloo because I did not buy his home built franken gun. That actually happened. I get beef jerky at buccees. My last purchase at a gun show was 5 new glock mags for my G20, i got them cause I wanted them now and not wait for internet shipping. Those who enjoy gun shows, rock out. No judgements. But anybody who wants to come to breakfast next Saturday come on out. If there are events hosted I try to attend when threads are made. I do not read this thread regularly because I do not frequent gun shows, so I never know whats going on. Its just an easy come, easy go, organic thing. No offense meant to anybody. And none is taken when people miss events that I host. |

Brownsboro from 0900-10000, then pick up jeffb1911 and head to the Nacogdoches show. Anyone want to join us? We have at least one extra seat, driving the most fuel efficient car we can. ETA: Definitely an extra seat, maybe two, so long as no one buys a .50 BMG or a Marlin Goose Gun. |

Brownsboro is as advertised, an outdoor expo. Seemingly it's in a combination church/exhibition center, and the only overt religious recruiting going on that I've seen is the sweepstakes ask for your name, phone #, & church.
2 gun dealers present, a custom rifle builder/gunsmith and a Ceracoater. Admission is free, and you can CC but not OC. Fishing tank for the kids, a street taco vendor, haven't seen anyone selling beer. |

View Quote That was a bit shocking to pull up to the venue and the parking lot was empty. However, hitting up the college town pawnshops seemed like a decent plan. But not many guns in them, mainly music instruments, lots of bows etc. Guess the college kids are not into handguns just yet.....but when the guys at Atwoods told us about a gunshop in the middle of nowhere outside Nac-A-Nowhere we decided to check it out....a gunshop open until 6pm on Saturday seemed too good to be true! And they had purchased an estate, so had a lot of interesting guns, some in pieces, and lots of old accessories and even more old gun books. i am starting on Cooper on HANDGUNS, a 1975 revision. Will be interesting because there will not be much on Gaston's infernal device at all! And probably not much mention of the wondernine craze in t he 80s. i also found a first printing of Brownells Gunsmith Kinks book priced 9.95 in the cover! Backbencher found a book on White Death which i'm sure has been out of print for quite a while. i even found a Gun Digest Treasury copy of selected articles from the first 15 years of Gun Digest. There were about 15 books i got, along with some real black powder and some other interesting stuff. So what seemed like a wasted day trip to a canceled show turned out pretty well. Is anyone going to the Canton gunshow next weekend? Guess i'll call this week and make sure it is actually happening though. |

After a couple of successful small afterparties, beginning to think about afterparties after the 4x Tarrant County shows - Premier's North Richland Hills, Will Rogers, Texas Motor Speedway, & Lone Star's Will Rogers. These would be Saturday evenings after the usual after show dinner. Might eventually evolve into post-show BBQ if we're lucky, If I manage to acquire that much skill. Thoughts?

For you MetroPlex guys, Bonham is a tiny show that will usually take about 15 minutes to walk. A few local's private collections and pawn shop guns and odds and ends. Mainly FUDD stuff and very little High Speed, Low Drag stuff.
If you are in the area, Mudbone's in Bonham throws down a pretty mean greasy bun burger. Take 56 east into Bonhan, turn left at the light onto Texas 121 and it will be on the left about a mile down. Cash only but the last time I was there, one of Opie's offspring was guarding the ATM. |

Nac seemed crowded when I got there a little after 5pm. Not sure how everyone's business was going though. Did find a cold steel master hunter that had been severely abused by neglect cheap though. Just happen to have spare sheath at home for it in my cold steel toybox... when I get done with it both the main edge and gut hook will be shaving sharp...
