My late father-in-law was a DACA member, so when I was in town on gunshow weekends I'd make a point of walking the aisles with him. He always had a table but had little on it for sale. Model 1 spun up some 8mm 1919 barrels for a friend of my F-I-L, and one weekend at the machine gun shoot we attended we put a few cases of 8mm at 6 cents a round through one of those barrels until it was a smoothbore. Those were the days. BB, it was great to see you again at the Night of Wonder, and my how you married up! View Quote Yes, FW_wife is all but blind. DACA began hemorrhaging when Trump took office. They spent 8 years of Obama getting fat, and Premier spent 8 years of Obama getting big. The biggest show in the area is Premier's FW Will Rogers show, not til the end of August. We've got a lot of interesting & new shows coming up over the next couple of months, though - small towns are starting to take advantage of the market, probably a lot of deals to be had on older guns if you're willing to drive a bit. |

Can highly recommend the Highlander Public House in Wichita Falls. Great food, good service, will eat there again.
The Wichita Falls show is small - very wide aisle in a large room that isn't filled. Even had an inflatable air rifle target booth, which I think shows up @ the DACA shows @ Southfork. Cisco was even smaller, but filled the room. Chinese SKS "Cherry" at Wichita Falls was nearly $600 - missing the rear sight w/ a peep rear receiver sight added on. Stock Chinese SKS as imported w/o the bayonet or bayonet lug in Cisco was $500 flat. ARs @ both, M1 carbines @ both, D/FW vendors @ both. And I sold my FIL's buddy's rifle for him, so I would recommend the Cisco show over Wichita Falls if you ever have to choose. Neither show would normally be worth driving 2 hours to. Jeffb1911 and I spoke this afternoon, he hit the Paris show yesterday. Said it was half gun stuff, a third non-gun stuff, and the rest empty tables. He hit Nacodoches today and said it was the better show of the two. |

Uh, I'm counting 35 shows in the next 3 months. Including a Friday/Saturday show open til 8 PM both nights. This is slightly amazing, I don't ever remember this many shows. Partly it's fall, and partly I've gotten better @ finding small shows' listings, but this is an average of 3 shows a weekend.
ETA: Given Premier is not listing either Mesquite Big Town show on their website, I get 34 shows over the next 3 months. |

Report from last weekend, 31 July/1 August. I made it to the Paris show on Saturday, then Nacogdoches on Sunday. I live in the Tyler area, so about 2 hours to Paris, about 1 1/2 to Nacanowhere. Paris kind of sucked. i knew it would be a small show since the Love Civic Center is not very big to begin with, but there were plenty of tables that appeared to be open that dealers spread their stuff to. Even with that, there were a few open tables. Although no shamwow dealers were there, i did notice several tables of other things that were not gunshow related. Some scencsy type stuff and cbd type stuff. Did not see much that i was interested in as the prices were way to high for what they were. Several guys balked when i told them how much i wanted for my US marked Winchester 12 riot gun trying to tell me it was a cutdown and had been reblued, etc, while they wanted premium for their 75% finish items. Same as always i guess. Not much ammo moving at stupid prices either, with 9mm about 50/round and 556 not much more. Some of the hunting calibers were still stupid high though like 3030 and 270. Hopefully that will clear up soon. i did pick up a knockoff light/visible/IR laser, hope to test it out and make sure the IR actually works. i was a few seconds away from an H&K marked Benelli M1 shooter grade. As i was waiting to look at it i realized a guy was discussing the deal with the guy at the table, and it went for 450! Still, not a bad deal for an old Benelli in decent shape. Guess my M4 will only have the turknelli version to keep it company for now.
Nac was much better. The show still was not 100% full, but it was mostly gun and related stuff. Larger venue also. Only a few tables were open, someone said one dealer had a family issue and had to leave. Only one or two tables that were all non gunshow stuff. Several guys selling their old stock of ammo, some at reasonable prices, but still higher than i would want to pay. Even on Sunday seemed well attended for a small town Sunday crowd. i did pick up an old Venture Calif marked Cold Steel Magnum Tanto II for a little under 100, but no sheath.....anyone have a line on a sheath? few other odds and ends picked up, but still no great deals to be had. This weekend i'll probably go walk through the Tyler gunshow. i'm not setting up at this one. Same group that did Paris is doing it. The building was originally built by the WPA in the depression, is mainly used for the East Texas Fair from what i've seen, bathrooms are in a side building, and the AC does not seem to keep up with hot days. After that, will try to meet up for lunch about 1100 in Canton with Backbencher somewhere. Since Tyler and Canton are only about 40 miles apart, should be easily doable as long as i dont get behind Ma and Pa Kettle going to town down Hwy 64. While there are so many shows going on now would be a good time to attend. The people set up at the shows will not be doing near as well as normal, so would be a good time to try to acquire whatever you have been looking for as they may be a bit more motivated to sell on Sundays than they usually are. And a good reason to get out of the house on Sunday afternoon! |

Any suggestions for lunch @ 11:00 in Canton? You're welcome to join us. I enjoy the Canton show, picked up the boy's Dan Wesson there by trading a Marlin Camp 9 & some cash.

Sophia said that they were supposed to be putting the new roof on in July and August, and havent even started...she said they won't let them dio a show until a new roof is on. Then she said if they ever gwet a new roof on... In any case, now Big Town in September, which sucks, I was really looking forward to it, and have a ton of shit to sell! Oh, dinner in Murphy...There is the Bar-B-Que place on Main Street in Wylie you guys tried, I think they are pretty good... Yanni's Greek Restaurant on 544 is really good if you like Greek... Pretty stellar Cantonese Bar-B-Que at Little Kaiping on Renner Road (a little further from Murphy, but really good...you can get "real" Chinese or American Chinese...the Beef Flat Noodles are incredible) Pho 544 on 544 is great if you like Vietnamese Hanna Sushi on 544 has great sushi... View Quote I suspected as much, as the dates weren't even on their website when I went to update the OP Sunday night. We're doing Indian Saturday, see the title & the OP. Come out & join us! |

Well, I did an advance recon for you guys at Mehfil, we went there for dinner tonight (actually hadn't done Indian since we left Buffalo...)
Its small, so they will have to push tables together if there is a bunch showing up. Food was pretty good, but damn, they were slow with not too many people there, so just be prepared for that. Looking forward to a show report, damn, I miss going to the DACA shows, always found at least a few good things there... Enjoy dinner! |

Hey, can you shake loose for 10 Sept, come down to Waco w/ me for the Lone Star Antique show? They have more Winchesters per sq foot than Tulsa. Seeing as you're already off that weekend... |

So, 2nd hand report from the Tyler show via Jeffb1911 - small, same building as last time, if you're going, go 1st thing in the morning before it starts heating up. I would think by early afternoon the dealers will be very receptive to cash.
Canton is the same smallish medium show it's been, dealers competing w/ each other on prices, even the dealer next to them. Picked up a $40 box of .32 ACP for $10 less than the guy next to him. Found a $30 original SKS mag to un-Tapcofuck Fatalwishes' SKS, while another dealer had em for $45. Show is slow, if you go tomorrow say hi to RebleYell & his wife. Parker (DACA show @ Southfork Ranch) is a mediumish medium show, larger than Canton, smaller than Allen. Pleasantly busy, but not packed like some recent Fort Worth & Mesquite shows have been. Not full, however - one side had 5 tables empty, the dark hall where Tacton is set up has plenty of room on either side. It's got room to grow, but apparently no money to advertise it. Make sure to say hello to Tacton, he's got the FN & Colt bits. Someone said hello before Motown_Steve & I go there, if it was you, post up, & we'll try to catch you next time. Someone let go a beautiful Smith to the ORP ladies, so if you think you can bargain w/ the crafty old gal, try your hand. It's a pretty revolver. |
