Thanks for pointing that out gopher.  Think I'll run down to Palestine instead. Should take less than an hour to get there.  Then I'll come home and get ready for Longview next weekend.

Made it to Palestine today.  Very small venue, and actually had the front door to the show open!  Remember, this was in an AIRPLANE HANGER!  Kind of hard to secure that way.  But you only have to pay to get into the area for parking, no one there charging to go into the gunshow itself, so you could see the other people set up for the Fly In, and check out some of the aircraft.  I did not look at any of the planes however, there were several other non gun vendors outside.  i would imagine that prices will fall by tomorrow on many things.  Although i did pick up at S&W 34 in great shape for a good price, along with a few other items.  

Now to get all the gear ready to set up for Longview next weekend.

Good to hear it was an actual gun show.  Not too hot?

The weather was about perfect to be outside on Saturday.  Think it was in the lower 80s at about 2:30.  Lighting was more of an issue with an entire side being open to sunlight, and a lack of lighting in the hanger itself.  Think if a garage for an airplane.  How well lit is the normal garage?  Thankfully i always have a surefire in my pocket just for such occasions.

Have good weather where I'm at.  We had an impromtu pistol course this afternoon taught by a DPS Firearms instructor.  I did ok w/ my little Ruger SP 101.

Good crowd so far today in longview.  Did few trades so far.  Not sure how Winsboro is doing, haven't heard from anyone who went there.

There's a show in Winnsboro?  Crap, I missed that.  Who's the promoter?

Dunno about Winnsboro, but there is a show in Cisco I missed.  @ the Hilton.

Sorry, brain fart....I should have said Quitman.  Same promoter used to do Winsboro back in the day, knew he was doing a gunshow this weekend but I had the location wrong.  

But I'm headed to The Butcher Shop in Longview if anyone wants to join me....I'm craving a good slice of pie!

Great show today at South Fork (DACA)...first show they have had there that I wasn't working the weekend, so took the boy and went today....

Not a bad sized show, nowhere near the old days at Market Hall...sadly....

But lots of nice collectible/militaria stuff, which is what I sell/collect.

Scored two great pistols, a 1917 (estimated) S&W 2nd Model Hand Ejector, Canadian contract and military marked in .455

And a beautiful Albion made No.2 MK I** 1943 dated revolver....

Two hard to find Commonwealth revolvers to add to the collection!

Anyone go to the Waxahachie show?  No worries about Winnsboro, made me find the Cisco show.  Last time I went to Cisco it was tiny, but walked in & sold my FIL's 7mm-08 in about 15 minutes to a dealer who'd just come into a mess of ammo.

Survived the Longview show. Did quite a bit of trading and left with less pounds of gear than i went in with i think.  My legs are reminding me i'm getting old though.  Saturday had a pretty good crowd, it was most crowded from about 10am until about 2 or 3 or so.  Normal people were griping of course while most of us said it was a decent day.  i did trade into a Ruger American in 450BM with seven full boxes of ammo, and another with i think 17 rounds left.  The previous owner did say it kicked a bit much.  Think i'll try it out on hogs around here and see if i like it or not.  

Saturday evening went to the Butcher Shop, met up with several of the guys like us who are just individuals trading their stuff.  Two retired officers, and a retired pharmacist.  They of course like the older guns.  Interesting conversations and i learned a few things as well.  Any time you get to listen to some of the old timers still around i recommend you take that opportunity.   We have lost four or five of the regulars from the East Texas area this year.  Lots of knowledge passed with those men.  

About to head to bed, working overnight, but they are already sending out news about what the weather may do tonight.  Everyone keep an eye on the sky and stay safe!

thinkin it's Elk season..he's out every year.

He hasn't updated his website in a year, and says there to follow his ad on Gunshows USA - which hasn't been updated in months.

It's probably listed on the other big gunshow site, but a mite busy to be chasing down promoters that don't know how to use the internet.

Anyone know what’s up with big town in mesquite?  I drive by there fairly frequently and they’ve got a chain link fence erected around the parking lot.  They doing renovations or something?

Yes, Premier really does seem to be planning two shows 35 miles apart in January.  Great chance to cross-shop.

I'll probably make Allen Sunday depending on a number of domestic issues.

For those going to Hutchens, be prepared for a long wait to get in and limited parking. Brisket is the show but the ribs are good also. Good beans but the rest of the sides can be hit or miss.

There is a place just across the street from the Allen Event center we have met at before with good food and drinks but I can't recall the name. It had a large outdoor section with numerous fire tables. Might be a good alternate.

@tacton - what shows have you got coming up?  You doing the Rodeo or Waxahachie show in January?

BLM will be active around Dallas this weekend from the protest thread. While Allen PD has a good record with bigger protests you might want to pay a little more attention than normal.

BLM has pulled shit in Plano before, tying up entire intersections.

I made it to Carthage this afternoon.  Typical smaller show, mostly guys like us trading off their excess gun junk.  Not much moving from what i saw though.  Did pick up a hipoint 45 carbine, and with BackBencher's help i hope to get it outfitted with a kit from tingmeister to make it take regular 1911 mags.  Especially since the marlin camp went too expensive.....

Think i'll leave it as a standard type rifle instead of a bullpup.  i've already had Tavors, AUG, and some others, and always go back to a standard type rifle.  Cool to play with, but i'm not going in and out of APCs or narrow streets and hallways.  I did not realize that it had a spring loaded butplate for recoil reduction and attempted to shorten the length of pull a bit....and heard the spring go flying!  Tomorrow i'll try to get that all back together.

Drove by big town today.

Fence around the parking lot was still up, but there were probably a dozen Fed Ex Semi trailers parked in it.

Made it to Tyler after church today.  Carried a Ruger American in 450BM with 7 1//2 boxes of ammo in the backpack......that stuff got HEAVY after a while!  After looking around i relized that about half the tables were covered by most of the vendors spreading out all their stuff to make it look fuller.  But still did better trading at Tyler than i did in Carthage, so i guess you never know how a show is just by looks.  And being cold ad wet today brought quite a few people inside this afternoon.

I witnessed something odd at Allen this afternoon. I saw a guy ask for and buy six new Ruger 9mm pistols. I got the vibe it was a dealer to dealer deal but I don't think I've ever seen that many sold to one guy at a time.

BTW: that may have been the most handguns I've seen at a small/middle-sized show in a long time.

Other than the Facebook only sites & the phone # only promoters, I just went through every site, & two listings sites.  It amazes me someone will put on a gun show & won't pay $10 for a listing.  I get the antique boys in Waco - they're in the same place twice a year, it's inside pool, and they don't really care if the public comes or not.  The guys in Arlington that are flying from all over the country?  It blows my mind that the only reason I found their February show, in a completely different town from last year, is b/c I visited their website.  Don't get me started on Allen Bowles - the only reason we know he has a show is he puts up signs down the street from the venue the week before, and someone here posts up.  And then the next week, there is his listing for his next show, online, like a promoter who cares.

Thanks.  For those planning on this one, it's in the exhibit hall where they used to play bingo north of the casino. Nice show that earlier in the year had a nice selection of pistols.
