Justsayin raised a good idea in another thread.
So do we want to put together an informal 2022 hometown get-together? Now that the all encompassing Covid menace has passed us by... Range time + friends + food? or do we just want to get together for beer and wings? Thoughts? EDIT: Things decided: Notso's Class 3: He is in for the Class 3 goodies. - attendees will cover Notso's ammo cost, meal ticket and range time. Ammo is expensive, so we need to defray his cost by splitting it amongst attendees. If you aren't going to shoot Notso's Class 3 firearms, mandatory contribution does not apply. I suggest that you bring cash for this. Range Fees: Everyone pays their own range fees ($15.00/person). Please pay Doubletap before you start shooting. Please fill out Doubletap's waiver when you arrive. Food: Will will cater in lunch from a local BBQ place. $15/person for food, any remaining funds after food cost+tip will go to cover Notso's ammunition cost. Food is first come, first serve; if you want to eat be sure to get there early or it'll be slim pickings . Lunchtime is around 12PM. I'll order a mix of Pork, Chicken, Bread/Rolls, BBQ Sauce (Red sauce only, sorry), Baked Beans, Potato Salad, Sweet/Unsweet tea, Lemonade, ice, utensils, napkins, and some easy dessert like Banana Pudding (whatever they have on the menu). That's as bland as I can make it, so if you have food allergies please eat carefully. If you want soft drinks, you'll need to bring your own. Common sense applies here, so no alcohol. Please bring cash, I don't have a card machine. Payment operates on the honor system, and a contribution jar will be present. If you don't eat, don't worry about contributing. Range: Doubletap, https://doubletapal.com/ Date and time: July 23rd (Saturday) - 9:30AM to 4:30PM CST. Spouses & family are invited. Feel free to bring your own Class 3 firearms. So long as it's legal and complies with Doubletap's rules, it's welcome. Range safety is vitally important. Please be mindful of your surroundings and strictly follow all firearms safety rules. Anyone violating safety rules will be asked to leave. To keep things simple I'll inform Doubletap that we can expect around 50 people. If our total number of attendees is under or over, that's fine. Please stay after to help clean up the range & lounge. We do not want to leave it a mess. Doubletap is being awesome to us, so let's return the favor. If you have any questions, please IM me. Thanks everyone, see you there. |

Are you thinking something in the Birmingham metro footprint?
Or something like going to CMP in Talladega to shoot? |
|
I am completely open to suggestions, guys.
We could arrange a day at a range, cater in some lunch and make a full day of it? There are a couple of quality ranges around Birmingham we could go to, or head further out if people are in the mood to play more heavily with class 3 items? or We could grab beer/wings at BWW / Baumhowers or Pizza / Steak / Burgers etc. and do a meet and greet? It would be great to visit with everyone and catch up on life. I have a few rifles that I need to zero in, so I'm all for range time if everyone else is interested. |
|
I'm up for whatever barring my schizophrenic work and on call schedule.
I'm sad I missed the shebang at Doubletap a couple back. |
|
As a now owner of property in Alabama I would like to visit as well
|
|
Keep me in mind - just talking - when you add in a range things get more complicated. Something like cook out at a state park is simple.
|
|
If folks are comfortable, throw out the area you would be most likely to be able to make, if not, I fully understand.
Montgomery to Cullman, here, maybe over to Talladega |
|
I'll drive most anywhere.
Doubletap was a good experience, nice range and clean facilities. |

I'd be down for a meet up with some local folks! I live in the Southside area, but work in Birmingham. A shoot at the CMP or local food/drink get together would be great!

I have friends that are into the sport that want to come with, so I may show up with a crowd of newbs (and some experienced shooters too).

Sounds interesting. I am centrally located so no location is off the table.

I need to meet new folks since I had no idea Huntsville was so "liberal" compared to the rest of AL.
All depends on the 4 month old and the wife wants to shoot too so....family road trip. |

The Mrs got to shoot a belt fed 1919 at one of these events. More than welcome. Yes! spouses are welcome. That will be awesome. I'm going to talk to Doubletap this week and ask them to reserve the range for Doubletap may have a pre-planned package that we can work with them on, I don't know. I'll find out and will report back. The last item we need to decide on is food. Do you guys have a preference? last time we had BBQ, but that doesn't mean that we have to have it again. Thank you |

I'm in for the 16th. Haven't seen a bunch of y'all in awhile.

I may not be able to do the 16th. We have a big serve day with our church that day. I may be able to come for lunch and after that, but the morning is the serve day.

I'm going to keep it simple and tell Doubletap to expect around 50 people.
As far as food is concerned, we have a while to decide. So no rush on that. |

I think Butch said they were headed out on a vacation until sometime next month, I dont know when they were leaving. Also, if anyone is interested, they also have opened a sporting clays course there near by called Shiloh Clays if anyone wants to do clays or 5 stand. |

+1 Sorry for the slow response on my part, crazy week at work. Guys/girls, feel free to bring whatever providing that it is legal and not against Doubletap's rules. |
|
I've emailed Doubletap. I will hopefully have some answers soon.
|
|
My wife and I, and maybe my youngest son, might make this get together, to meet up with other Bama folks!
