On Las Vegas Blvd, north of the Stratosphere and south of Fremont was a weird dingy store that sold what could be called Mountain Man art supplies like odd feathers and teeth and hatchet heads and beads and leather and just weird ass stuff, not Vegassy at all, just kind of dark hole in the wall place. Not like craft store stuff, like weird stuff that time traveled to get there.

Any of you guys remember what I’m talking about?

I think that is correct, thanks.

Yeah that’s right. For along time he was the only guy that had black powder and supplies in town. I remember the place well. Filthy dirty and filled with all kinds of bones, feathers, leather, rawhide and primitive crap.

I remember going in there in the early eighties.
Ya it was dirty and stinky, but the guy really was knowledgeable about a black powder revolver my buddy picked up at the gun show. He sold us all the stuff we needed to shoot it.
He showed us how to load it and showed us how to clean it so it wouldn’t rust.
He was a pretty cool guy.

Anyone remember the Gunsmoke shop on Fremont near the showboat?
My dad bought an old Winchester pump 22 for $25 back in 1976  I still have it.

I miss some of the old gun shops we had.

Yeah he was a strange guy too. Used to see him at gun shows after the place closed. He would sell all sorts of Tibetan bells and chimes.

What about Westgate drugs.  I used to bring all my out of town guests there.  A drug store that sold guns, booze and drugs. He had a lot of high end guns and commemoratives.

Then there was Citadel on Charleston.  Another dump but used to have some treasures.  A friend of mine bought a pair of glammed up Lugers there. Chrome and gold plated pimp guns.

Ahh the good old days.

Sportsman’s  Paradise on Maryland and Charleston.
I went in once around late eighties. He had a barrel filled with Garlands for $50 each.
Who knew.

I liked going to Bill's Buy and Sell on Fremont.
He was a crusty old bird, though.
Looking back, I miss that.

Best,

How about Cravens Gun Haven.  Old Hank Craven smoking cigars in the store. Everything you bought in there stunk of cigar smoke.  I remember bringing home a can of 4895 powder and setting it on the kitchen table and my wife thought I was in a strip joint as the smoke had permeated the metal can. Crusty old dude. Got robbed at gun point and got out of the business shortly after.

How about Machine Gun Kelly's on Sunset?

At the time I lived in Vegas there was a guy who had a business called "Discount Firearms."  Started as just a counter in someone else's business than moved to his own little hole in the wall.

Dude moved some high volume of guns for really amazing prices.  Dude had some opinions that would fit right in here.

Growing up, I lived about 100 yards from the Cravens when he was west of Arville. My buddy Joe and I would hang out there on Saturdays and
even though we were only in our mid teens, Hank didn't seem to mind. He would gladly show us anything we showed interest in and talk endlessly
about it. There was a Green stamp redemption/catalog store in the same shopping center. I remember finding my mom's stash of stamp books
and sold them outside the redemption store for some money to buy a G96 Titan sportsman knife, from Hank. Vegas in the mid to late 70's was the
best Vegas.

Then there was Pacific Tactical right next to the Stratosphere. George Sakamoto dealt in a lot of class three stuff. He lowed balled me on a HK94 that I wanted to have a sear conversion done.  He tried to buy it from me for no money. He insulted me with the offer and I never stepped foot in his place again.  He went tits up after a massive heart attack.

I also remember a uniform store on Main and Charleston that sold guns. I purchased a Chinese SKS from there for $70.
I shot it a few times then sold it to a friend for what I paid and used the money to buy a Browning Hi Power.

Of course who can forget the Survival Store. I loved that place.  Sold ammo by the pound. Beautiful women cashiers and of course the lovely “Bo”. Chuck Traynor owned it. He was Linda Lovelace’s husband. Then he married Marilyn Chambers who was on the FFL till she got busted for mail order porn. Then he married Bo. I started working there in 1990. Boy could I tell you some stories. Here is a link that tells a little bit of the story

The lovely “Bo”. Boy I really loved going to work. My wife was apprehensive when I started working there but after she met Bo they hit it off pretty good.  It was all strictly business. I loved the SOF conventions most of all. We worked our asses off but it was a great time.  Las Vegas rocked back then.

I remember a Citadel Gun on Dean Martin, back when that street was called Industrial Drive.  I heard they eventually got raided for selling stolen military equipment.

That place sucked. They tried to tell me that with a NV CDL and a LV apartment that I had to wait until I was in NV for 90 days after leaving kali to buy guns. They got raided by USAF OSI for selling stolen AF gear pilfered from Nellis. I also heard that they had a convicted felon building DPMS kits and receivers into complete rifles and selling them as "factory rifles". Customers found out when warranty claims were denied by DPMS-"sorry sir/ma'am, that serial number was sold as a stripped receiver, not a factory assembled rifle".

Citadel was a cool shop.  I used to shop there all the time when I was stationed at Nellis. The owner was an idiot.  I heard he lost his first FFL a few years before Citadel opened for doing stupid shit.  His wife, Amber tried picking up the pieces and ended up losing their FFL because of her dumbfuck husband.  It's a wonder he didn't get hit with real jail time.  It's a real shame how bad Jon and that piece of shit "gunsmith" ended up fucking over Amber so bad.

Their problem was their gunsmith. A prohibited person working on guns. He had awesome stories..... a Dallas PD swat sniper on leave for a shooting, was a sniper in the Marines and was hurt during a mission, got shot as a cop and forced to retire. It was odd when none of his stories checked out. Not a single one checked out, but he kept running his mouth. Then I had a couple of issues with some barrel threading. It wend downhill from there.

The MRE issue sucked up a ton of stores in Vegas, including a couple of our favorite ones.

Who could forget their pimp gunsmith.  He did an AR barrel change for me once and that was enough to convince me to get the tools and do it myself.  He also fucked up a customers suppresssor as well.  I did hear it was some dumb shit he did with a Metro guys guns that got negative attention on him and started his downfall.

They always say buy the gun not the story, that applies to people as well.
