those with romanian G kits may wish to take them to a machine shop to get the barrel pins pressed out before the date arrives, i wish i had last time...

If they don't mind sacrificing the original pin, then drilling through (from both sides if necessary) with a 3/16" bit and then usin' a 3/16" punch knocks 'em out every time.

We ain't skeered of no pins!

Replacements are $4 from RPG. I have a few already and can bring them, we'll see if RPG wants to sell/donate some more.

I'm being lazy here, but...

does someone have access to some Romy Kits or have another romy kit I can buy off you?  I'd pay more than what they're going for now and I'd pay for a receiver.

regardless I'll be there, since it's down the street from me.

I see there will be a park tank. Any access to a blasting cabinet? I have a Polish underfolder kit, reciever, and all compliance parts ready to assemble. Just need to blast and park 1st.

Someone mentioned a blasting cabinet in one of the threads, but keep in mind that we have 10 hours from start to finish. The other problem is having "enough" air compressor on site to push a blaster.

You might wanna hit up a local automotive starter/alternator repair shop, most of them have glass beaders.

You in Houston? Be happy to be add you to the list.

Plenty of used 20" pencil barrel uppers floating around.  Personally, I'd check if going on the cheap and using a used bolt from another rifle as well.

That's just me, tho.

I did the conversion on my saiga 12 a few months ago. Well, I watched another guy do part of it, and then I finished it.

Its not too bad. Hell, you don't even need to do rivets unless you really want to.  I just used some binding posts and screws on mine.  If I get crazy about refinishing it, I'll just have a buddy weld the posts in and spot weld the trigger guard in place before I refinish.

Other stuff you'll need are: Pistol grip, pistol grip nut, pistol grip screw, buttstock, and a trigger group.

All thats involved is removing the trigger guard and drilling another trigger guard rivet hole farther forward. On mine, the reciever already HAD the square hole cut for the pistol grip nut, so I didn't even need to do that.

Also, you just need to cut a little notch out of your US buttstock.  Takes 15 seconds on a bandsaw to make the cut.

Well, count me in trueno.  I've got a Romanian G kit thats itchin to be put together.  I just don't have the tools or expertise to confidently do it on my own.

Tom, its no biggie.  If someone is bringing a drill press, a set of bits, and a grinder, thats basically all we need in the way of tools to do your saiga conversion.  Maybe a set of hand files, too.

Bandsaw isn't necessary to make the cut on the buttstock. It can be done with a hacksaw.

eta: Let me know if I can bring anything in the way of food/drink.  I'll be heading up from bee county, so I don't really care to haul a bunch of heavy tools that far.

Well, I was just curious.  I won't be at the party as I'm only in TX during the week days.  I'm moving soon, but was just wondering as I started getting into some HK and Cetme kits recently.  Just bought a couple kits and some JLD Receivers.

thanks though, I may PM you if I get stuck if you're available.

Spoke at length with Andre at the Pasadena show, he and Wayne are eager to do whatever they can to help the show...er...build party go smoothly such as offer tech etc. I've just about got him talked into setting up a table and holding a seminar of sorts. Hoping he'll share some of his AK experiences, he's got some pretty cool stories to tell, he told one today about how he, Jimmy, Ivan and Kalashnikov were hangin' out in Florida.
Seems that he and Mikhail's blond Russian translator hit it off very well LOL!

Got a RomyG coming in this week, got it 95% + for $100 shipped. Other than that, nada. Will anyone have spare r922 parts and receiver flats? I just don't think I can get stuff mail ordered and delivered fast enough. I can dremel de-mill it beforehand to save time.
No real tools, just literally starting out, but can help with a fan and a folding table or 2. If ya'll want them for setting up a drink/food station outdoors. Can also probably rob a bunch of folding chairs from my City storeroom. I'd love to make it barring a City emergency as I'm not on weekend call that saturday. Even though its a 5 hr drive one way for me... which means, pregeant wife in attendance and a hotel room for HER comfort.

We've got several 20 ton presses volunteered but only one will be needed, Turmantor is bringin' it, we'll use it for barrel work. As far as smaller presses, 2 would be good, we could do rivets and use flat jigs at the same time on those.
