Granted I havent even attempted to buy from walmart in years, but did yesterday, and was told they "havent ever" sold handgun rounds, which i know for certain isnt true.

What is the go-to for cheap range ammo these days? Ive also never bought ammo online before... is that where the cheap rounds are to be had now? I miss 8.99 FMJs

They stopped selling pistol and “assault weapon” ammo several years ago after one of the mass shootings, can’t remember which right now. They do still carry .308, at least by me. As for cheap ammo now is the time with BF here, check ammoseek for the best deals.

I thought it was a year or two ago after some mass shooting.

They had lots of rifle caliber stuff, definitely .308, and a ton of .22. I dont recall seeing 5.56 but didnt notice if they had .223 of any kind or not. I suspect probably had hunting rounds. either way, sucks.

Most of them stock plenty of .22, 12ga. and other hunting/fuddish rounds. .24x, .27x, .308 .30-30, .30-06 as well as other popular Otts and Magnums..

Pretty much anything main stream calibers 9mm, .40, .45, .357 .38x, 5.56, .223, .300 blk and most other common sporting and ""Tactical"" type rounds are a no go at the Wally World.

Seems like its been that way for 3-4 years now.

And there were many deep discounts.  Added quite a bit to the ammo fort back then.

Saved me lots of money.

When they stopped selling the ammo I'd sometimes buy I had no reason to enter a walmart anymore.

Been once in the last two years.  Took my nephew's 10 year old boy in there and bought him some fishing lures, a tackle box, a rod/reel, a hat and some sunblock.  That was almost a year ago.  Haven't been back since.

The ammo prices were pretty darn good before went to virtue signaling vs. taking care of customers.

They were practically giving the ammo away at the end.

This.  But some people still claim to have walmarts selling ammo.  IDK, none within 100's of miles of me do. Not a single rd of anything. I have no choice but buy online now.

A lot of Walmarts still sell ammunition, just not handgun and certain "assault rifle" calibers. Some Walmarts never sold ammunition even before the policy change in 2019.

I do miss their 200-round boxes of XM193 for $49.99. They were selling for that price even in the months leading up to the announcement that they would stop selling those calibers. I was there the night they finally got cleared out of most stuff and watched a couple guys stacking boxes of .38 and .45 in their shopping cars (neither of which I used). Like everyone, I wish I had bought more of the calibers I use. Who knew how availability and prices would go crazy a few months later?

Like some other people here, I now have no excuse to go to Walmart. Haven't been to one is years now. I found Norma's online store to be a reliable source for ammo. They offer free shipping over $150. They had supply during the ammo crunch during the last few years.  https://normashooting.com

Is Norma still requiring a signature on delivery?
Link Posted: 12/9/2022 3:22:46 PM EDT
[#22]
I don't think they require a signature anymore. I've never had to sign.......but that can be due to the carriers.
