i have a officers model in stainless it has duel springs which assume is standard that is extremly hard to rack slide. is duel spring needed in this model, what is pupose of duel springs /

OEM is the dual spring setup. Wolff Gunsprings makes a single spring replacement but I had bad luck using it in my stainless Officers ACP. I went back to the dual spring setup and all the problems went away.With less slide mass to absorb .45 recoil they have to use strong springs in them. Colt also recommended changing those springs every 1000rds or so.

The simple laws of physics apply- if the slide is shorter and lighter, that needs to be balanced with a stouter spring. No way around it.

I replaced mine with the kit from EGW. My officers model is new to me and according to Colts website was built in 1997. I was getting some failure to feed with the factory set up. Since replacing it I’ve put about 200 trouble free rounds through it.
