I went nuts with my wife's christmas present this year and she hinted that maybe I should look up something nice for myself. I really feel like I have my firearm "needs" met so it would be a chance to expand to wants. I of course want something I could use, and don't currently have a railed 1911. It would replace the M&P in my "battle belt" set up since I do like and prefer 1911s to anything polymer.
I haven't shopped railed 1911s in a while. I know I am 100% against colt or kimbers. Budget would be about $1000-$1500 or so. Always liked and wanted another STI/Staccato but that's out of reach at the moment. Other options? So far I'm liking the Specialist or maybe the Range Office Operator. I have a threaded barrel and pistol can it would likely wear for range visits, so not thinking bull barrel options. |

You would need to stretch your budget about $800 but a ANIB Nighthawk GRP Recon can be had for around $2200-2300. There is one on GB right now with a SureFire X300 for $2300.
It would match (honestly exceed) the attention to detail and quality of the LB in your avatar. We’ve spoken on this forum before ... I have enough experience to recognize what constitutes a viable 1911 and Nighthawk’s guns definitely exceed expectations. |

Sig and Les make railed models. Personally, I think DW is the sweet spot for railed production guns. Specialist or TCP, take your pick based on desired barrel length and aesthetics.
I wonder if Stan Chen would ever do a full house rail gun to put in the Louvre |

I’m happy with my Sig TacOps Traditional. Has the normal slide profile instead of the funky Sig one.

I have the RO Loaded Operator and love it, added a WC magwell and G-10 grips. Great pistol and very accurate.

My smith and wesson 1911 has a rail. Not sure if they're still in production though.

Springfield MC Operator. Has OD frame. If that bothers you, you could have it refinished. My Operator is a MC that’s been refinished.

Mc Operator/Long Beach operator, Kimber, Colt, and Sig are about it in that medium price range.
If you push it ups round $2000, you can get into Les Bear, Rock River, Dan Wesson, etc. |

Won’t buy a colt after 1) their rifle BS and 2) shooting matches with the colt team who weren’t even shooting colt pistols or rifles
Not really interested in Sigs with the weird top end but I didn’t know they did a normal one. What’s the name? Happy with my 365 I’ve never seen a Baer recon under like $2200. I would snatch that shit up hard under $1500 I’m not sold on caliber. I currently stock 9mm and 45 so those would be easy but could be talked into a 10mm |

Springfield MC Operator
The gun is a good value. Doesn’t have the bull barrel or adjustable sights of the TRP. And decent front strap treatment. Mine was older style with smooth front strap and I had it checkered. |

So you’re $1500 closer to the Staccato you’ve been wanting, why buy a something you’re meh about instead of saving another $800 and getting what you really want? Sounds silly to me to buy something just to buy it.

TRP or Specialist is the way to go for a quality factory 1911 with a rail. You’re not going to find either in your budget right now though. Specialists are $1700-$2000 retail now and you’re not getting one below retail. The few used ones I’ve seen selling are in the same price range although there is a decent deal on a used specialist commander right now.
TRP’s are going for stupid money. They’re normally $1300-$1400 new but used ones are bringing nearly $2K and aren’t easy to come by. MC Operators have been bringing $2K+ too now too. |

Smith and Wesson also has full size rails.
On another note, both my Full size and Pro Kimbers have been absolutely great and very accurate and under $900. |

Quoted: Wow View Quote In all fairness it’s the older MC Operators bringing the highest prices since they’re CA approved. The newer ones are going for $1500 which is still about $600 more than you used to be able to find them at dealers. All of the TRP Operators are going for high prices. SA dropped a batch of 10mm’s about a month ago and they’re still in stock and they’re running $1500+ where you can find them. |

sheesh, that's a lot more more money than I thought! I didn't know the single stacks in 45 were going crazy with prices so maybe I'm better off holding out or just going with something in the $2k range at that point.
Not sure how much money I can throw in my from my slush fund, I'm possibly trading into (plus cash on my end) for a buddy's SCAR 17 |

I like my DW Specialist, I was going to get a SA or Colt but decided to spend the extra and get the DW. I'd like to get another one in .45 but with the ammo situation having no end in sight I'm not going to get into a new caliber.

In 45ACP production guns the DW Specialist would be a good choice. I wouldn't recommend the same in 9mm (from my experience with 9mm Valors and Guardians).
If you can save up for a semi-custom you'd be well served by either Nighthawk or Wilson. I wouldn't want anything made by Springfield or Colt. I've had more than enough of each to not like them. Its a personal preference but I like tool steel parts. |

Hey OP, this probably doesn't help at all since they look to be out of stock everywhere, but Ruger makes a Railed 1911 as well. MSRP in the mid-$700's.
If it's anything like their other ones, I'm sure it's a fine pistol. |
|
|

I have been into 1911's for a very long time, I currently own 20.
I would say save alittle more and buy a Springfield railed Professional. I bought one acouple of years ago just when the FBI contract was ending. It comes out of their custom shop and it's a whole differant animal than Sprinfields regular production guns. Out of all the differant 1911's and brands that is the one gun I could not find anything to Nit pick or complain about. If I had to sell them all tommorrow, that one would be last. |

Does Dan Wesson make a steel frame commander size 1911?
I need to get back into 1911’s but prefer a steel frame over a lightweight. I’d look at getting a Springfield or another a Colt as well. I can’t find a Colt Combat commander anywhere. |
