Please see the below pictures (apologies for the quality).  I'd like to tell him roughly what it is worth.  Also has three magazines for it.  Gun appears to function correctly, though we did not shoot it.  The serial number comes back on Colt's website to:

Year of Manufacture :1913
Model: MODEL 1911 MILITARY

U.S. property mark absent from frame - an otherwise nice pistol now worth no more than 600 bucks

When it comes to these condition is everything.  Your pictures don't provide enough to give a good estimate.  Is the US property mark ground off?  If it is it nearly destroys any collector value unless its a USMC version then it might be better.  If it isnt ground off it could be a civilian version.  The serial number should tell you.

This is what it should look like if a US gov pistol.

You need better pictures and condition is everything on these.  Also the serial number.

It could be anywhere from $700 for a ground off rebuilt version to $8,000 for an original USMC version.

Sad to see these molested old pistols.

These are $600-800 all day long
