Today I picked up from a private seller a very low round count Ruger GP100 Wiley Clapp (6-shot) 357 magnum revolver. If you google it you'll find a world of information and positive reviews on this revolver. 3" barrel, custom factory grips, Novak sights, and a brushed stainless finish plus more. Weight is a hefty 36oz according to Ruger. I've yet to fire it, but after a good cleaning I was impressed with the very smooth single and double action trigger pull. Not quite S&W target quality, but a respectable smooth combat trigger with no hang ups or hesitation. Not sure what role this revolver will play into my needs, but I'm sure it will exceed what I'm hoping for. A good quality leather holster is the first piece of business that I'll be looking for.

Shown with my Ruger SP101 (5-shot) 357magnum 2.25" barrel for a comparison. Range report soon weather and time permitting.

I bought my wife a GP100 before we got married.  Not a WC model but still is nice.

They are built like a tank.

What holster do you use for your Wiley Clapp carrying? Yes, Ruger got this one right.

Made it to the range to test fire my new to me GP100 Wiley Clapp. As expected it worked flawlessly. Firing double action @ 7 & 15yd lines I was consistently hitting right. Need a lot more practice obviously. Single action I was constant 10 ring with no issues. The front fiber optic sight drew in the light for a nice front sight aiming platform. It absorbed 357 magnum loads very well for a quick follow up shot. 38 specials were mild to say the least. A very nice platform that I think MAYBE I'll carry in the winter months when wearing a jacket or vest. Ordered a OWB pancake holster from Privateer Leather for it, the Highwayman.

That's an interesting package. 6 shots of 10 mike mike in a revolver. Cool. I'm curious how well they are selling. Gunbroker has them listed I've seen. Yet to read any feedback on them.

If you want to get better shooting double action, do some dry firing.

Slowly pull back the trigger and listen (and feel) when the bolt locks into the cylinder notch.

Hold that pressure, refine your sight picture, and a little more pressure on the trigger until it drops.

That's the secret to shooting double action with a Ruger. The other part is a lighter trigger pull.

A spring kit will improve the pull. https://www.midwayusa.com/product/862056/wilson-combat-custom-tune-spring-kit-ruger-gp100

Not hard to install a spring kit if your handy.

Enjoy your GP 100.

Thank you. Just need more range time with this tool. I'll leave springs stock. And yes, Ruger triggers have always stunk. Kind of a change of pace for me buying DA revolvers recently. They were the craze late 70"s early 80's when I was of age to buy. Then auto's took off. The rest is history..... But still kind of cool carrying wheel guns again.

I’ve got those exact same except my SP101 is also the Wiley Clapp edition. I absolutely love them!  Just picked up a Henry lever gun in 357 mag to keep them company

Here is my new OWB holster from Privateer Leather. Model is the Highwayman (pancake). Rides medium height with slight forward cant. Conceals well with vest or jacket. Accompanied me last weekend on a 5hr drive for 3 days of bow hunting. No discomfort, carried well, and very secure custom fit. Very pleased.

Sweet revolver OP, I highly recommend picking up the Compact Lett pattern grips.

http://shopruger.com/Rubber-Grips-with-Rosewood-Inserts-Compact/productinfo/70084/

I picked up a plain old used 3" GP100 with those grips and much prefer them to the full size variant that came on the WC version.

I run the compact grips on mine.  For concealed carry it’s an improvement

My Ruger GP-100 compact grips came in. Like the feel, and a bit less bulky than original WC for CCW.

I won’t one of those real bad. I’ve got a 4” that’s been awesome. I think the 3 would be perfect for cold weather carry.

Anyone carry the WC appendix?

OP that WC is awesome, congrats. I have a SP101 and have loved it. Time for a GP.

These .357 Wileys are hard to find now. A few pop on GB now and then.

Also wish they were 7 shot!

There is a 3” Talo 7 shot out there in SS.

That holster looks perfect.

One of these will be my next purchase.

Earlier this week I added Chigs custom grip inserts to my Ruger GP100 Wiley Clapp 357 magnum sporting Ruger compact grips. Actually they're SP-101 grip inserts that Chigs drills so they fit your compact GP100 grips. For an added touch I had him install the Ruger emblems too. I've used his services before when I purchased my SP-101 a few years back. Great custom service and speedy delivery! (that is oil on GP100. Just took out of safe and box after summer nap. Like to carry these two in fall/winter months while in field hunting or exploring)

Oooh, slick.  I've thought about doing a 3" GP100 or the WC model with the compact grips, but the Chig inserts are a nice touch.

The Wiley Clapp GP100 is definitely the best looking one made in my opinion.  I've had mine for a few years now and I love it.  Wish I had enough money at the time to buy two but that's life.  Maybe someday I'll get to buy one of the black finished models since they still sell that version (or did last time I looked).  I really like the sights on these, that fiber optic front glows like crazy in the daylight.  No doubt these stainless versions will be quite sought after as the years go by.

Man that’s a nice setup.  There is a used one just like that at my favorite shop I’d love to pick up but they won’t come a penny off the price.  It’s got a few minor scuffs on it  but still looks nice.  They’ve had it in the case for almost a year now.
