So, at the age of fifty, I have finally achieved a personal level of finacial solvency to be able to purchase my personal 'grail gun'. I didn't even need to use my COVID BRIBERY $... like I probably would have if I was 25 years younger.

I ordered up a NIB HK USP Compact 9mm yesterday.

What's your grail gun?

Right now it'd probably be a custom 2011.....though the DWX may very will displace that and find it's way into my collection first.  Waiting to see how the range reports fare on it.

FPNI.
Grew up with that being the cool guy rifle.
Second to that would be the 733. Basically the M16A2 version.

I more or less have that but I still want a factory AR15 SBR and to put together a repro XM177E2.

ETA..oops, handgun discussion. First post does not nail it.

Wilson CQB. Probably never bite the bullet.
Springfield Pro. Ditto.
Springfield TRP, no rail, fixed sights. This will happen.

American 180.  Plinking with the .22LR and 1200 rpm that will eventually tear through a vest but not over-penetrate walls.  Plus, I could write my name with it.

First one that comes to.mind would be the Beretta 86, with its tip up barrel. I know it's not anything super cool, but I've always wanted one for some reason.

A simple blued Les Baer Custom Carry with Novak's in .45. Rather expensive, but I drive by Les's shop twice a day and really want to support the local guy.

I'm really wanting an STI Staccato P 2011 these days and might give Scheels some of my money to buy one.

Other than that, I've tried a little of everything and am running out of things I actually like

Ironically my grail gun was a Smith and Wesson 629-5 that they produced and called the Mountain Backpacker. They even assigned each one produced a special MBP serial number. I never knew they existed until I read a posting about the gun and how it came to be made.  I looked for years for one and never ever found one or seen one in person.  After years of gun shows, on line searches, and phone calls, I found 2 for sale in a 48 hour period.  It was so bizarre to see 2 in the wild after all that time.  So what did I do ?  Yeah ... you're right I own 2 of them now...

Always wanted one of the DW 10mm CCO 1911 but they stopped making them forever ago and only made a few.
Glock 19 sized, slim like a 1911, fires best-mm ... perfection.

Alternatively, and easier to aquire, I'd like to come across a reasonably priced Hk P7 style gun.

Pretty much one of these.  Actually an MP5 but with my finances I settled for a PTR copy. I am very pleased with it especially after putting a brace on it.

Actually found one of mine a couple of weeks ago.  A 1967 S&W Model 10 with a three inch barrel.  I collect Model Tens and never thought I would find such a creature.  Keep in mind the three inch guns from that era are a different animal than the guns from the 80's and 90's.  Uses the standard barrel frame and the barrel itself is a much narrower profile.  Three inch guns from that time frame were all special order and very scarce.  This was the only one I'd ever seen in the wild.  Even came with a factory letter.

My other grail gun is a FAMAS.  No idea why and I know I'll never have one but I think they're cool.

I think I like the FAMAS for the same reason as the L85: something that I always thought was cool from seeing photos of, and I've never been able to handle or fire one to dispel that impression.

A 600 Nitro double rifle.   Or a 4 bore double.  I'm a recoil junky.  A slight nod to the 600 since it would be more practical.

1898 receiver ring dated 98 Mauser action.  Less than 1% of production and would have had to survive two World Wars.

Since this is the pistol forum, my grail pistol is an original, Sig produced P210. I've never even held one, but I want one, badly. Overall, probably a Carl Gustav M45 SMG (the Swedish K) or an original Uzi, but for pistols a P210 is it.
