This would be my first handgun red dot

It's also a training pistol for my son and new shooters so I'd like to keep it light

I use Burris FastFire III, but I bought a FastFire IV for the various reticules.

I was underwhelmed with the FFIV.

The Burris Fast Fires are good.

Get a good low mount for it too.

I use a Holosun 407C on my MKIV Tactical and other 22 pistol’s too.

I'm a big fan of the Holosun models that have the shake awake function and solar cell... I have multiple Vortex venoms, and sparcs, and a spitfire as comparison...my 22/45 Lite is a specialized Steel Challenge pistol and has a large 510c which would not probably be applicable to your problem... there is a difference in the diameter of the circle/dot reticle if you go with Holosuns if that is your preferred optic view...I use only the dot on the pistol and .22lr SBR, but circle/dot on the AR9 PCC with the 507.... read the specifications carefully ... all three ran 13 months before I changed the battery as a test... regards

What about mounts?

It has a factory installed rail I always figured I'd mount to but it seeks many are using aftermarket mounts?

I used a Lobos Industries mount in my pic above.  The dot sat too high for my liking when I used the stock rail.  Had to tilt the muzzle end down to acquire the dot which didn’t feel right.  The lower mount felt more natural.

I use a 3moa Vortex Venom on my Ruger.  They're "cheap" at about $250

I have a Holosun 407 on mine with a Madmacs mount. If I had to do it over again, I’d get another one of the 507 with the ACSS reticle from primary arms like I’m running on my 9mm. The chevron is more precise than a dot and the “help me find the dot” ring has been a great bandaid for my poor presentation.

They are available in green also

Mine wears a Bushnell TRS-25 on the factory rail. Don't forget to secure both the rail and the front sight with Blue Loctite.

I feel like we just did this...

I have the Venom on my Ruger-ish 22/45.

Vortex has a good mil discount if you can take advantage of it.

For window size it's hard to beat the Sig Romeo 3XL or Max 6 MOA, they're pricey though at just under $500. These are also the favorite among competition shooters for good reason.

I use a Vortex Venom with a MaddMacs mount. The 3MOA version has been $80 off at PSA for over a year. The discount code is Venom.
