What is your home defense handgun? I know there are several schools of thoughts and preferences like for example some want to have a cheaper handgun in case they use it and it ends up in the evidence lockers for months (or years) and don’t want to have their favorite or prized or more expensive handguns in the HD rotation. Some are of the opinion that they want the very best available one at their disposal as their HD handgun. We are not contesting that topic here. Just plain simple sharing what is our home defense handgun or if you are like me who sometimes keep changing every few months or weeks just out of boredom, what is in your current rotation?
Also, just so all of us are on the same page, this only about the HD handguns and not other home defense weapons like shotguns, or ARs, or any other carbine/long rifles, knives, machetes etc.. Sharing pics is absolutely appreciated so that we can all ogle and keep this thread lively. I will start with mine. Currently it is my Glock 19 Gen 5 MOS. It takes the dings and not being in the safe nicely and I don’t have worry about scratches on the metal body like some of other prized 1911 or hammer fired ones. Also, thinking getting a full sized one like a G17 or something like that if I find any good deals after this pandemic craze is done. Point being I don’t keep my very expensive or collectors guns as home defense handguns. Attached File |

Mine is a Gen 5 Glock 17. Its my EDC pistol so it naturally transitions to my nightstand gun when i go to bed.

A rifle.
seriously I'm a very good pistol shooter (competition) and I still choose to use a rifle for HD. I have a light, dot, and reload on board, and I don't have to hide it in my pants. I no longer have tight corners to contend with so my choice is a bit bigger. That said I have a access to a few depending on where in the house I am. Mostly M&P 2.0 with light and 23 round mag. |

Yes, I know most of us have a long gun or a rifle as a primary or secondary somewhere in house, but this being the handgun forums purposely wanted to keep any longs guns out of the discussion :). That is a separate topic by itself |

Several. Staged appropriately. Nightstand is a suppressed xdm. Backed up by a shockwave.

I too have a few staged at different places in the house, except the night stand gun however, none of them have a round in the chamber even though with a fully loaded magazine. Have to think about that. Also, planning to add a weapon light like a surefire or Olight. Suppressor is a mouth watering proposition but unfortunately we will never have suppressors in our commie state of Illinois. |

First off, a handgun is a defensive weapon, which means it is a backup weapon to my rifle. Since Op doesn't want to talk about the actual, primary HD weapons, then my HD backup weapon is my EDC pistol which is this one. Of course, I don't have just one backup gun ready to backup my HD rifles. I also have another HD back up pistol to my backup pistol, which is a Dan Wesson Silverback 10mm. As for using a cheap gun for HD because you are worried about a shooting and the gun being confiscated for evidence, I believe that is like saying, I own a Lamborghini Countach and when I want to race someone else with a stock car and big money is on the line, I use my Kia Soul because I don't want to worry about an accident that might damage the expensive Lamborghini.

No one-no one-wants to see my nightstand gun.
But since the OP asked, it's an S&W Sigma with a Pro-Mag rail adapter and an ancient M3 Tactical light. Two extra 16 round mags with standard pressure Hornady Critical Duty 135gr 9mm. |

View Quote We already talked about it in the opening post :) . No one is denying that a handgun is a self defense weapon and the primary HD in many homes are shotguns or some kid of rifles. That is not the topic under discussion here. We are just trying to share what are the handguns that we have ready for home defense, be it as back up to your rifles, additional staging or for some people one and only primary as it is better than having something than nothing. I myself have several rifles and handguns staged all over the house. Nobody is trying to use Kia in a drag race here ;). Lamborghinis deserve Ferraris and Bugattis. |
