RDS pistols are becoming more common, although still uncommon in carry.

What distance are you sighting in your RDS carry pistol for?

9mm?

40?

45?

What do you recommend as the best distance to sight in at for those calibers for a self defense/carry handgun?

I run a handful of RMR's on glocks and FN's and I do all of them at 15 yards.

I made a video on red dot zeroing. Just one guy, sample size of one, but this works for me and my pro instructor pals largely agree. Start at 10 yards or so, then fine tune at 25.

Pretty much this.

Get on paper at 10, confirm nothing is wonky at 20-25.

25 yards for me.

Ran with 10 for a while, tried 15 out.

They all work so long as you know how the holds work.  I just realized I'm used to 25 yard zeros with irons, and figured I should just keep it consistent and have stuck with that ever since.

Between 10 and 25, there really aren't any bad options.

Another 10 yard, then confirm at 25 user here.  Jedi explains it best in his course/videos - it's 0.7" difference at most.

IMO, it's more important to know the holdovers than to get super obsessed with the zero distance.

I sighted in the 9MM (P09, CZ75 Compact, P07) at 7 yds. and see no meaningful change at 12.5 yds.  I've shot the P07 at 25 yds., only once and it was still in the black.

I sighted in the P07 .40 at 12.5 yds. and don't recall shooting it at any other distance.

I like that. Thanks for taking the time to make that.

To answer the OP's question, I get the impact close at 10 yards and zero for 25 yards.

Good stuff.

A 25y zero with common 115 gr ball is a 1 inch variance at 50y, flat from 20y-30y.

Validates my 25y zero.

Your 10yd 115gr is a good argument for zeroing at 10.

I zero at 25-30, but a 10yd zero only being +/- 1.1" out to 75yds and only 5.3" low at 100 is nice.

IMO, 25 yards is where you're really going to need the dot to be right on POI.

15m is what I did then I did a DOPE for 25, 50, 75, and 100m so I know where to hold.  Still have not be able to get enough practice and have someone observe 200m but I have been able to make hits out to 200m with a RDS pistol and I have a general idea where I need to hold.
