Picked up a surplus from AIM a year or so ago. It was “refinished” but not well as it rusts on the grip Everytime I use my leather holster. Have the opportunity to refinish and cerakote for basically free due to a generous sponsor at a competition. What color would you go with?

I’m thinking dark grey, a light FDE, 2 tone FDE (slide dark, grip light), or some kind of mirror black. This gun gets shot a lot, and I carry it a lot. I’ll have to send it to Novak first for sight work. Thoughts on color?

Eh, I left my Izzy surplus looking like shit. I figured it had a lot more character than I'd ever be able to replicate!

I carry it almost daily and it rusts daily, where the finish is worn or thin. Gotta be done, plus it’s free

Shipped it off to Novak for sights.

When it comes back I think I’m gonna refinish in DDC/burnt bronze. A mix between the two, whole gun. With matte black controls. Going for different over pretty. And it should be mostly free so fuck it.

Asked for a quote yesterday so will see what happens.

If anyone cares I’ll update when it gets done. Still have to order and fit a couple parts before it gets painted.

Hi Powers should be classic. Black, blued, hard chromed, or parkerized.

Any shade of brown, bronze, green etc is just wrong.

Ended up going burnt bronze, with black barrel and controls.

Turned out well, the pictures don’t really do it justice. I was torn between gaudy desert eagle gold or normal gray/black.
So I went in between. For a completely free job (gift card from a match), I’m happy! Also had my glock done in sand at the same time. Thanks to infinity finishing services of Texas for sponsoring the shooting sports.

Fixed the rusting issue from the previous finish being mostly gone. Gun was surplus and is pretty beat to shit. Nicks, scrapes, dents in frame and slide. They did a good job covering it up and protecting it for the future. There’s a mark on the trigger where the mag disconnect pin had to be filed (my doing), so that’s why it looks weird. Didn’t bother to have them do grip screws. This was purely for fun and to protect from rust.

Also had Novak mill and do their night sights right before painting.
