This handgun was found in storage unit in New york. It will coming up for auction soon. We have no idea what it is. The only markings are the 1931 as shown. The barrel is about .35 in diameter suggesting a 38 or 9mm range for caliber. The action resembles a Batavia/Febiger rifle, but we cannot determine if they made any pistols.

Any help appreciated.

Interesting, looks like maybe a prototype gun?

I agree that it is a prototype pistol.

The lack of markings and the very precise fitment of machined parts that aren't smoothed out like production models would have.

Great find.
It's worth getting an appraisal on; try the guys at Forgotten Weapons.

You lucky bastard......

Looks like a 30-30, a 45acp revolver, and a Mauser had a child...

Looks like a pump action from an old savage 1903 (but it's not) mated to a revolver frame.

I agree with the prototype posts.  Not refined enough for a production firearm

Did the auction house have a a chamber casting done to find out the actual caliber

Do they know the maker?

I personally wouldn't bid without more information on it.  Could just be a gun made by someone at home.

I'd buy it only because it's weird. Like a mauser and a revolver had a kid.

Yeah, was about to suggest asking Ian at Forgottenweapons.com as well. Weird and obscure is his thing.

@FrankCallahan

You bidding on it? Anything else gun related at the auction? There may be clues.

Grip and frame looks like it came from an 1892 Colt.  Which would account for the serial number on the butt.

Any update, OP? Did you buy it? I'd love to see more pictures if you did.
