Just pick up this beauty.

a commercial P38 was the first centerfire handgun I ever shot, back in the late 1970's when I was a tween.

Might I ask why you opted for a commercial model over a war era model, i.e. steel frame?

All the post war surplus guns and commercial ones are the same.

I have a '57 dated Walther P-38.

I know, which is why I specified a steel framed model.

Karma, don't want a wartime model.

Walther is supposed to have made a fairly small number of steel framed post-war commercial models that sold for a premium.

Nice looking pistol. I own both the P38 and the P5 ,the P38 is an excellent condition bring back BYF with 90% original finish and a bright shiny barrel bore and eagle /swastika stamp ,holster and matching number mag .  ,And the P5  police surplus P5 has 2 mags , a holster and is in about 80% finish wear  . While the value of the P38 is much higher, the P5 is a far better shooting and handling pistol over all . IMHO the P5 hasn't got the recognition it deserves .

Are you serious? What about the slide and frame re enforcements? What about the post war steel frame models?

I think you have not been thoroughly exposed to P38/P1s. I was sighting them in in the military and successfully competed in military & police state matches with them - but this is the internet and your opinion is at least as valuable as mine, especially with your impressive post count.

I've got a 1985 commercial model that I picked up last year. It is easily in the top 5 of "compact-sized" barrels that I am most accurate with.

I'm normally a P225 guy, but I really enjoy my P5.
