That is just the plastic part of the rail, not important to function.

Pro tip: This happens after you take the slide off. When you put the slide back on, if you press it straight back all the way to rear, it will booger up the plastic there.

You can prevent this by putting the slide on carefully and NOT pushing it straight back. Instead push it back to the disconnector (the piece of metal sticking up out of the frame). Then carefully push the slide back over the disconnector and push down on the slide from the top.
