Semi-auto extractors break, wear out, etc.   With enough use, it happens.
I keep spare parts on hand for this reason

For a new pistol... would you consider swapping the factory extractor for an aftermarket upgrade?
Keep the factory part as a backup

Or would “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” be more appropriate?

Ain’t broke do not fix it. In 30+ years of shooting and carrying pistols I have replaced one extractor- a Glock 19 that was chipped. Still ran fine on brass case but would choke about 1/200 on aluminum.
I have a few spare guns so if something breaks I carry something else until the first one can get repaired
