I have several nice 1911's in .45 and a Sig 1911 in .40. I've never owned a 9mm 1911. Not sure why, I guess I never saw the need as I have several other 9mm pistols and the 1911 in 9mm gives up a lot in terms of capacity. But I came across a nice STI Sentinel Premier and now I'm thinking hard on it. Fo or no?

Love my DW 9mm commander such a sweet shooter, and carries well. 10rd mag and 1 in the pipe just 4 shy of your avaerage plastic gun.

I feel your pain, have some nice 45s already and want the colt combat commander in 9mm at my lgs. Must resist!!!

I have DW and STI 9mm commander size pistols. They are my favorite guns to shoot. I regularly carry the STI.
|
|
I have a LW Colt Commander in 9mm. Great gun. Cheaper to shoot then my DW CCO in 45. |
|
I love my 4" 9mm Mag Research. I can actually hit what I'm aiming at very easily.

I absolutely love mine. It is my favorite handgun to shoot by far. I went on the cheaper end and got a Rock Island, but I have been extremely happy with it. The fact that the recoil impulse is next to nothing and the long sight radius, you can hit targets at distance with ease.
I say FO! |

I’ve had a EMP, Stainless Loaded, Range Officer, STI Targetmaster, and a Springfield Custom PPC.
9mm 1911s are a ton of fun, but they can be finicky with mags and ammo. Definitely test yours thoroughly before you use it for real life problems. |

9mm 1911s are my favorite pistols ever. 1911 grip angle and aesthetics with the recoil impulse of 9mm in a metal frame + 10 round capacity? Perfection.

“Best” mags are those that run and don’t cost a fortune. I have run Metalform Elite 10 rounders for years in several 9mm single stacks. Never saw a need to spend more.

Colt Competition in 9mm is da bomb!
Using Brownell mags no problem except one that I now use exclusively for dry fire/snap cap/Mantix practice. Had an initial problem with Syntech ammo, but once broken in, it's run no problem. No problem running WWB or Blazer brass either. |

Thanks for the replies. Guess I should have known no one would talk me out of one If all goes well I should pick up the STI tomorrow. No longer made, but it's this one right here:

Dayum! If you have the coin, looks like an excellent choice.

The wife just picked up her Springfield Loaded in 9mm today. Can’t wait to shoot it!

I have owned Springfield, STI (2011 Eagle, VIP and single stack Spartan), Dan Wesson ECO and Guardian, and eventually sent them all down the road. The 2011's were extremely magazine picky and I got tired of tuning mags. The others were all ammo and mag picky. The cartridge is too short for the platform so you end up compensating in all sorts of areas, mags either limit forward travel or push the cartridge forward with a spacer inside the spine, feed ramps and magazine lips have to be matched. It can be a reliable gun but it is often more work than what a 45ACP or 38 Super 1911 requires. |

I have several, the first was a Colt 70 series, it was accurate, fun to shoot, no recoil, cheap to shoot and it just grew from there.

I love mine. I rarely shoot a 45 anymore. These are soft shooting sonofaguns. Bought this Armscor used for close to $300 and it’s been flawless. Feed it with the Brownells mags which have also been flawless and the price is nice especially if you wait for a coupon.

Ended up getting the STI. Lightly used and in great shape. Feels really well put together. The slide feels like it's on ball bearings, yet tight with no movement whatsoever. Pretty sharp looking as well. Really looking forward to shooting this one. It only came with one Wilson mag, so I definitely need to order some. Quick pic:

Every time I shoot my 9mm 1911 it ruins my desire to shoot my other pistols. They're that good.

I hope when the DWX's come out they are OR updated, they've had enough time

I ordered some Wilson ETM mags from Brownells. They had the three pack on sale, plus I had a coupon. I also ordered one Tripp mag to try out, I've been using them in my .45 pistols for years with good results. Should be able to get it out to the range next week. I cleaned and lubed the pistol and everything looks great on it, inside and out.

Quoted: Mecgar makes the Wilson mags for the EDC, and when I got it home I got real excited. They look almost identical to the Sig 229 mags. Just different enough that they won't work... Damn shame because I think I have 40 229 mags in 13, 15, and 18 round configuration. As it was the Wilson came with 8 mags and I bought 2 18 round ones because reazons. View Quote Were your 229 mags too big? 226 is close but a tiny bit smaller. |

STI single stacks have a good reputation, especially in the non-45 calibers. They were one of the few production companies who knew how to set up a 9mm 1911 out of the box. Biggest problem I ever had with any of mine was failure to lock back, and that was cured by shortening the slide stop plunger or replacing the slide stop.

I like the fine serrations and the carry cuts on the front of the slide. Very clean. |
