Back in the early days of my LE career they were still talking about the original company and its ammo product line; how it had revolutionized carry/ police duty bullet designs in the early 70s before the company went belly-up by the mid-80s.

I thought that it had gone away forever, but a couple of weeks ago one of my FFL customers asked me to try to scrounge up some current Super Vel in 380 ACP and so I looked into it. A new company was stood up a few years ago, with a product line that harks back to the old company while selling a new product line. Something I was entirely unaware of. maybe it got reviewed in a few gun mags a few years ago and I simply missed those articles.

I figured what the heck and ordered a few boxes of a handful of calibers to see if it would sell.
It'll probably sell about as good as Cor-Bon does, which is to say almost never, if the customer has other options.
Obviously bullet designs and ammo in general have come a long way in the last 40 years, so the uniqueness of this stuff may have simply been passed by through the passage of time and continued improvements to most handgun ammo....

Have any of you had a chance to run any of the ammo from the new company through any testing? I am genuinely curious as to any results that shooters may have had.

The new company hasn't changed the packaging design, from what they show on their website

About a year or two ago, I went to qualify one of the old timers at my Dept. on his .380 backup gun and this was the ammo he pulled out. I told him it was a collector's item...

I got a couple each of the 9 and .45 for free to try out. The brass is great, and the rounds were lasers out of several pistols, namely Glocks and USPs. No way I'd pay the prices they're asking.

I still have several original 1960's Super Vel boxes in use, the boxes are cool. But they are full of reloads using much heavier bullets.

Didn’t some of the original ammo blow up some guns?
Or was that urban legend ?

Other than nostalgia. Why??

A mediocre lightweight cup and core JHP at really fast speeds?

Back in the day, I'd say yes. Cause what else was there.  Today. I'll pass.

Gives larger energy numbers.
But it is all looks and not enough bang.

Carry trainer on YouTube talks about this ammo. He has a 10% off code.

If it came in 124gr I would probably give it a try.

For those of you hard up for 9 mm shooting ammo, I got an email last night; at 2 PM ET today they're releasing 100,000 rounds of their bulk reload 9 mm ammo for sale, split between 115 and 124 grain.
Not sure what the limit per purchase is, probably a couple 1000per buyer,  at best.....
edit: the email doesn't have an actual page on their site linked to the announcement...

They released another 100K in 9 mm reload ball ammo yesterday. The first batch of 100,000 rounds last week was sold out in 9 seconds. I grabbed 1K rounds that day

I was hoovering over the page yesterday and by the time I checked out a few seconds later it was already too late because it was sold out.
Crazy times.

Not "cup and core" bullets anymore. Now they're using the Barnes bullets. Which have no "core" because they are one piece of metal....................
