Does anyone know how to remove the safety from a Star model 28?

I have the model 30 manual (page 30: https://www.swisswaffen.com/files/star-30pk/star-model-30-pk/aecz563hf5kv.pdf) and I am following those instructions but no joy.

Does anyone have any hints?

Edit: First of all, I'm not using the firing pin, I'm using a punch. Just to head that one off.

The Model 28 was Star's entry to the XM9 pistol trials-- it was rejected because the safety does not drop the hammer. It was then sold here as the Model 30M. There were some guns sold to Saddam Hussein for the Republican Guards, 6800 guns I believe, that could not be delivered because sanctions had dropped between order and shipment-- those pistols ended up being sold here too and are marked Model 30MI. It is usually easier to find info on the 30M. These pistols are built like tanks.

Not being familiar with this model, I will offer my zero cents --

The instructions say to CRAM the firing pin into the little hole, which should force back the swivel detent.

Then simply move the safety lever to the extent of it's travel (back?), and draw it out of the slide.

You may have to use the FP -- The tapered end may be needed.

Thanks for the quick response. That was my take on it. I gave it a shot with the firing pin and it didn't seem to make a difference.

@Ductapeman - I got to hold one and fell in love. It's a tank for sure. There's something special about older steel guns.
