Hello,

Im thinking of getting a S&W 617 4".  What is your thoughts, good ,bad, ect. I really want to know what you guys think of them.  LGS can get me one here for 680.00+Uncle Sams fee.  Ive never owned a double action 22lr, Ive only had Ruger single six and MkII and I love them. My local range has just started a rim-fire challenge thinking of trying it out.
Thanks

Great guns, good price IMO. People will prefer the pre lock guns, but the newer production lock guns have the same level of quality to my eye. I personally prefer the 4 inch guns and would probably pick it up if I was in the market for one.

Grabagun has them for $652 shipped if that saves you sales tax at all.

Great revolver. I’ve had 4” and 6”. I prefer the 4” since it balances better. Speedbeez speedloaders work great too.

A definite vote for the 617 4"
One of my favorite and most shot pistols.

A friend of mine has one and it is a great shooter, he uses his in steel challenge. I have the older non lug barrel 17 in blue. If they made this in blue I would  have one. ( they did make a blued 10-shot for just a few years but they are very rare ) I much prefer blue and no lug but they never made a non lug blued 10 shot

I also have a M18 in addition to my 617. I also prefer the non-lugged barrel and wish they made a M18 in stainless. Both of mine are 6-shot, a 10-shot would be cool too.

I have a 6 inch with a red dot.  It a great shooter.  The second pic is of the scoring legend on a silhouette I shot at from our 50 yard line, this was using plain ole federal 22

I have a pre lock 10rd 617 and it's so much fun, love shooting it in the yard with Colbris(sp)

Wasn't sure if I would like the 10rd but I really do.

Have quite a few k22s and I'd say they are one my favorite wheel guns to shoot.

Congrats on your new 617

I have a pre loc 10 shot  6", probably my favorite gun to shoot. It runs absolutely flawless with everything I throw at it. Just leave the stock trigger and springs alone. They tend to get a little more picky on ammo when the trigger starts to get lightened up. And that is a pretty fair price, dealer cost at the moment is $645 plus the ride. Do it, you will not be unhappy!

My wife gave this one to me for my birthday a long time ago.
Probably my favorite .22 revolver.

617-1
Very accurate.......
That old Tasco red dot has been on a bunch of pistols and just won't die....it's bulky and heavy compared to newest technology ,but it still works.

I have a 617-6, beautiful gun. Scary accurate. 4”.
Smoothed up the internals, 13lb rebound spring, it’s a dream to shoot. I did have to send it back for timing and to get a forcing cone cut. No big deal, had it back within 2 weeks. Came back absolutely perfect. Gave it a light buff with flitz to make it look like a oem 1980’s polish job, cases were getting hard to eject after 60 rounds, reamed the cylinder with a piloted cylinder 22lr finish reamer my Manson saami spec.
Cannot wait to shoot it after I reamed it.
I do have a raptor mount for a deltapoint pro but I’m waiting for a deal on it.

It is the most favorite gun that I own. Hands down.

I have the -2 version, with the alloy cylinder. You don't see those much these days for whatever reason. Mine is the 6" bbl.

I just picked up a used -6 with the 4" barrel for $550.  It looks like it's barely been shot.  I'm sitting around waiting for the 4473 to clear.

I just bought a 6 inch. The trigger is a little heavy, but I think it will break in. Mine is a tack driver.
