I just got my grandfather's Model 1905, 4th change M&P .38 Special.

I don't know it's full history yet, but I do know my grandfather didn't buy it new. He bought it within the last 20 years from his brother in law, who had gotten it from a jewelry store owner.

With a 484XXX serial number, I've figured it to be between 1923 and 1926 without looking to hard.

And, I even got the box with it

I used an Amazon gift card someone gave me for Christmas and ordered some Pachmayr grips for my model 10-7 pictured in a post above, but I guess I was not paying attention and they were for a newer model (round butt) K-frame, so I ended up putting them on my 617, which of course they fit perfect.

640 no-dash .38SPL . I put the Wilson Combat J-frame spring kit in, and the DA pull is fantastic.

6-inch Model 1905 M&P 3rd Change from I'm guessing about 1912. S/N 198,xxx. This one was made before they started the "Made in USA" marking on the frame. The action is the best I have felt on any factory S&W, it is hard to put into words how smooth it is.

Those original 640s are fantastic. No recoil due to the weight.

It is very pleasant to shoot, even with the few +P I tried, though it is not the version with the +P rating laser engraved in the water table. It shoots better than my .38 LCR for sure, but I've never had an alloy J-frame to compare.

Brushed nickel, reminds me of the nickel 70 series Colt 1911s from the 70's.  No N stamps or R N stamps anywhere, so its a aftermarket job.  Action is very slick, single action is light but predictable.

Love the Mountain Gun..My next purchase --- soon, very soon.  Is the knife a Randall?  I have similar leather for my "plane jane" 629-6 from Diamond D out of Alaska. I'll have to get some pics up of that.
