Good morning. I have not posted on here in probably years at this point. I have a 442 that I have owned for years which I use as my work carry, and therefore daily carry piece. Over time the stock grips have started to peel off as I dont take the best care of the thing and I also have to periodically lay on top of it (Mechanic, also DIY maintenance of my personal cars) while on my back. I am thinking I want grips that would possibly make the handle slightly larger, and also look a little cooler. Perhaps a wood or synthetic wood grain in a black or dark gray (the gun is black). I rememeber a long time ago seeing a lot of very handsome grips in the photo threads that were wood grain or vz or something. Anyway, I would appreciate any recommendations.

It's bigger than the OEM but fails to meet most of you other criteria.  It is also ugly as sin.  Made by Ergo.  That said it is the most comfortable J-frame grip I have ever shot.  Makes +P loads feel like wad-cutters.

I have never seen something quite like that. Is that actually your piece or a generic photo? Very interesting. Let me check that out. Thank you

I just ordered it. For 25 bucks can’t go wrong, this was actually less than I anticipated and not what I expected someone to recommend, in a good way. Hope i like it.

Yeah its ugly, and it will feel just as weird as it is ugly in your hand at first too.  But don't judge it until you have put a few hot +P rounds through it.

Good luck, hope you enjoy them!

Some wood grips are gorgeous but seem to be too slippery for me without any kind of texture. While they are not wood, I have a Hogue 1 piece grip on mine which changes the grip/angle a little but gives me more control of the gun, if that makes sense. I have bought a couple sets of wood grips from Altamont Grips and have never had a problem. Mind you they might be visually flawed, in the fact they might not have the same texturing at the same angles done to both sides but for the price, I can't complain. Hogue makes a lot of grips and have lasted a long time in the gun market but they are more pricey. They make wood, polymer, rubber,etc.. Check out Hogue's site for options.

Ive got a set of Altamont Bateleur grips I really like.

Covers the backstrap. Nicely checkered.
Handles 357 quite well. But not great for pocket carry. Bit long Attachment Attached File

Since my usual pocket gun is out for repair I put a set of Uncle Mike Boot grips back on it.

If someone knows how to search archives, the long photo thread you remember is one I posted and was titled something like, Can You Get Ahold Of Your J Frame.

Every good post just gets pissed away.  At least the URL to the archive probably works.

I bought a set of Taurus grips and put them on my 442.  I had to drill holes for the roll pin, but that wasn't any problem.  Ugly, but effective.

I really like the HOGUE tamer

they are larger, soft rubber, but with a smooth hard plastic tip which makes them fast out of a pocket holster.

I bought a bunch of brass, loaded up the DILLON and make a bunch of practice ammo.

with practice, you can make good hits with a snubbie.

I recently switched from a 642, to a Ruger LCR.

not as pretty, but lighter, and smoother.

@Rick_A

Nice job on the cut down Uncle Mike’s grip.
I’ve been contemplating that but haven’t done it.
I think you just motivated me!
