Hello,

I just picked up a Ruger Blackhawk in 357 Maximum that was cut in 1/2 through the frame at the factory. I am wanting to get it welded and case hardened. Does anyone have a recommendation for this?

Thanks!

If it is the top strap, are you sure that isn’t a flame cut from use?

Cut in half at the factory?   That doesn’t make any sense.

It’s a gun that never left the factory. After they had an initial release, hand loaders were loading too hot and blowing them up, so Ruger cut the rest of the inventory in half and shelved them.  These haven’t seen the light of day since 1983. My father-in-law knows a guy who bought the lot and I picked one up.

That is the craziest thing I’ve seen in a long time.  I can’t believe Ruger let those out of their hands.  I can’t see welding them back together as practical or cost effective but who knows.

Use bondo or super glue and then touch it up with paint and then leave it lying on the front seat of your car with the doors unlocked for some little thug to pick up.

Copied and pasted from an email from Turnbull in 2021. The job I asked about wasn't nearly as complicated as re-welding a cut frame either.

Hi Eric,
Thanks for contacting us. I would recommend getting in touch with Bowen Classic Arms for this project: www.bowenclassicarms.com. They do a lot of custom work on Ruger revolvers; we really only do cosmetic refinishing. Please let me know if I can help with anything else.

Thanks,
Sara

Neat gun OP. Color me surprised that Ruger let them out of their hands.

ETA: They also quoted $550 plus additional polishing as needed to color case harden a S/A Ruger frame about a year ago.
