When is it going to be available?

Also, estimated street price?

What is the action type?  Is the action like the FiveseveN?

What is the capacity? Judging from the magazine markings it is 20+1.

Does the barrel lock up or is it a blowback?  Other?

What is the weight of the pistol (unloaded, magazine in)?

Down sides? It doesn't feel "duty worthy." It is based off the LCP and Security 9 and feels somewhat budget conscious. There isn't really anything outright wrong with the gun but I don't think it'll cut into FN's sales much. More of a hobby gun rather than a military piece.

It seems like they're testing the waters.  It'd be interesting if they chamber the SR or American series for 5.7x28.

Cool pics, thanks for sharing them!

The gun is blowback but with a toggle affair that cams down in recoil. Barrel and slide travel backwards together a short distance. There is no cam and/or locking block on the barrel.

That sure looks like short recoil.  Are you saying the hood on the bbl doesn't lock to the slide?

Distributors shipped these to dealers today, as soon as they were officially allowed to tell people about them at 11am EST.  I do not believe there were many shipped today, we had a few.  I bought one myself and am really looking forward to it.

I do believe this gun will cut into sales of the FN 5.7.  The price on the FN 5.7 is almost double that of the Ruger and lets just say the FN 5.7's haven't exactly flown off the shelves for quite some time.

The gun shoots flat. Really no recoil to speak of.

This is one of the few "common" pistols calibers I have never shot.

So, would you say the recoil is about half of 9MM?

How about muzzle blast?

I am not recoil sensitive, just trying to gauge.

That makes me wonder about the Ruger.  If the FN was selling like mad with backorders piled up all over the place the Ruger would make complete sense.

IMO, the interest in 5.7 is there but not at the cost of what FN is selling. However, I doubt it sells in the volume of a standard duty caliber and that is likely why its MSRP is where it's at.

I know that has been true for me, and it seems like other posters in the threads about this gun have said similar.

Is the FN overpriced for what it is?  Polymer coated slide, etc?

Ruger's definitely going after the price conscious consumer with this gun.  They could have made something more a direct comparison with the FN but probably not for $500-$600.

With that said I assume the FN pistol will come down at least a little in price.

They already have come down. Gun Pro Deals has the FN at $956 in cart right now with a free Inforce APL weapon light (via FN rebate) today.

The question is, will this Ruger offering be worth it when you can get the FN for $300 more?

Glock rolled the dice with the 10mm G20.  They wondered if the 10mm would remain the FBI caliber of choice.

It was an interesting roll, and it must have been a doubtful time and ultimately delivered a reasonable rate of return.  The G20 gave me something I didn't have (10mm).  I then bought a G19, and a G34...

I like the new Ruger semi-autos.  I would never have predicted I would say that decades ago.

The BOD of Ruger should have smothered Bill with a pillow a lot sooner.

Bingo.. Overall firearm sales seem down right now, but most don't seem to have issues selling the Five-SeveN. Perhaps FN dumped more into US market to up supply, as for awhile they were out of stock or limited. I got my FSN from Gander Outdoors for $800 OTD. Definitely not double the cost of the Ruger, and as mentioned GPD has these for $999 and the light special.

The FSN has a chrome lined hammer forged barrel that has expected life of over 20K rounds. Not that most will put that, but what does Ruger rate theirs as?

I could see other reasons for leaning to Ruger for the price, but I'd have to test one with the variety of ammo that is available. Hell if Ruger's Customer Service is better than FN, that might be worth the cost savings :)

No idea.

Is the 57 really suitable as a suppressor host?  Won't fouling be an issue with a blowback action?
View Quote
Yep. Use a 22 can rated for 5.7 and either available subsonics or AE TMJ or SS197SR. SS195/198/etc will suppress but add way too much blowback into shooters face. With proper subs loaded for barrel length, no booster on the FSN is needed.

Doesn't really make the gun any dirtier than other suppressor hosts

5.7x28mm, 57gr Copper Hollow Point, (R57.SD), R&R Weapon Systems Test, CMMG MK57

5.7x28mm, 60gr FMJ, Subsonic, SB193, FN Hertsal

“Dealer price” on a FN 5.7 is officially $1120. There are some buy 5 programs where you get some free goods but most are sold to dealers around $999. The guns you see selling for $800, or even $959?  Someone in that scenario is losing money. 4 or so years ago a FN 5.7 was a hot item, allocated by most if not all distributors. That changed about 18 months ago, right as FN brought a bunch in. They just sit on the shelf. Don’t believe me, look at the fired case in the box at the Gunshop. I bet that gun has been on someone’s shelf for 2 years.
It’s all about the price of the gun, it’s to high. There are some pretty awesome guns on the market for WAY under $999.
I think this Ruger 5.7 is going to be a huge seller. I bet it makes 5.7 Ammo hard to find again. We are going to see deer hunters, fudds, Ruger collectors, guys wishing they could afford a 5.7 all buying these as soon as they see one.

It is completely subjective of course but I noticed nothing unpleasant when shooting.  Recoil is very quick but unsnappy.

Blast is another deal.  Certainly fine with proper ear pro but there's a bark there.  More of a crack I guess.  Not really a "boom" at all.

Thanks!  Wife use to be a deadnutsaccurate-put-a-swat-team-member-to-shame 9mm shooter but that has been a looong while.  I am thinking a 9mm might bug her now and this might fit the bill. She knew the drill; three shots center chest and repeat as needed if accosted in the house with a break-in while I was gone on business.

Wanted a FN forever, but at the price they were asking, pass.

The Ruger has got my attention, if it can be found below $500, I hope it sells encouraging others to follow.
