What an afternoon. I shot 400 rounds and was hot, tired, and sweat soaked by the time I finished. I was shooting various steel from silhouettes, hostage silhouettes, dueling trees, and a decent plate rack.

This was my third trip taking 6 or more, and at this point, I can confidently say my favorite is the Ed Brown Alpha Elite. There is something about the ergos on the grip of that pistol that fit me like a glove. It is noticeably different in hand than the others.

I want to like the Wilson the best but this CQB Elite has been back to Wilson once already. All malfunctions today were courtesy the Wilson and there were more than a few. Frustrating beyond words that my grail gun is just a range toy for people to coon finger. It has a new barrel that still only has a couple hundred rounds in it so time will tell if it heads back or not. I want to LOVE this pistol!

If you take price into consideration, the Specialist is the winner. Great 1911 that I would be proud to have if it was my only one.

I also have Ruger, Sig, Kimber, Colt, and more Springfield and S&W E Series. I do like them all but put Wilson at the top of the list of disappointments and Ruger at the top of most pleasantly surprised. My Ruger is a Talo edition with rail. I got it for a steal on GB.

The little S&W Scandium frame is a bad ass little pistol. It is very light and the only 1911 I have with a shorter barrel. I am glad I got it to try out. It is a keeper. I carried it all day on a prairie dog trip, but no prairie dogs tried to ambush me so no battlefield assessment there.

Thank the Lord for UpLULA magazine loaders! Only way I can shoot and load that many rounds in one range trip.

Pelican case is a model 1510 compliments of ebay. It has a handle that pops up and wheels so you can roll to the range!

1911s are so much fun!

Lots of rambling, just a fun day at the range I wanted to share.

Saw a young dude earlier this summer in skinny jeans and a beanie (Texas summer) and was surprised he was shooting a 1911. I thought the skinny jean beanie generation might be alright after all.

I got over near him and it was a 9mm.

I can talk shit like that since I am all 45 in 1911, but when being honest I have had a 10mm 1911 in my hand more than once that almost went home with me.

Didn't stay around to get a name but if samuse had a turtle butt, patchy beard, and smells like warm yogurt it may have been him.

you have a Baer in that mix, there's literally no reason for the others :P

something about the long front strap fits me better than all the others. Every once in a while I consider selling all my polymer 9mms to fund more 1911s (only have baers at the moment ) but don't have any set up for bad weather. so maybe one with a rail and coated...

What do you mean, OP?  Those pistols look like they have exactly the same ergos.

Don't know and I am curious as well. I will have to get the calipers out before my next range session.

A full size steel 1911 weighs as much as a kitten. You can't carry a kitten?

What model is the case and is the insert something you cut out or a factory type of thing.

Thanks

Buddy it is a single purchase ready to go to the range.

1510 Pelican case on Ebay

This is who I bought mine from in early 2017. I am not trying to pimp them so you are welcome to look around. I like the one I got because I did not have to do anything and it is firmer solid foam and not plucked foam.

I am getting a rolling 10 pistol case from them next. I have 3 kids that shoot and it would be nice to take a lot of pistols at one time for a longer day of shooting.

That's a nice 6 pac you took out that day. Sounds like you had fun.

This was a range day from last shooting season. The 4 non 1911s were brought by my shooting buddies. The rifle is mine though. I like variety but I prefer 1911s so I get variety via calibers. This was a mix of 45s and 9s. I left my 40s and 10 with the rest of my 45s and 9s.

OP, how do the wilson aggressive starburst grips feel? Are they somewhat close to the VZ OP II's on the specialist?

Another great day at the range.

500 rounds today. Everything in the pics shot great.

I also brought the CQB again. Grease may have fixed its issues.

Thanks for sharing. The only thing about the S&W that bothers me is the external extractor. It is hard for me to consider it a 1911 configured that way. It just seems like the easy way out, and certainly the cheaper way out for a manufacturer that makes lots of other types of semi-auto pistols with external extractors (S&W and Sig come to mind).

Also if you don't have a 1911 in 9mm, you are really missing out. If you use a 1911 for self-defense, 9mm is the way to go. My alloy framed DW pistols in 9mm have such mild recoil, it is simple to make very quick and accurate follow-up shots. After all, the purpose of a defensive handgun is to be able to get as many accurate shots on target as possible. I can do it so much faster with a 9mm 1911 than I can with a 45acp 1911. And I'm pretty sure that is true for most shooters.

With modern hollow point ammo, 45acp has no advantage over 9mm. So why go with the caliber that has noticeably more recoil, less firepower, and makes it more difficult to get quick and accurate fire on target? I'm guessing a lot of folks see it this way too because I have never seen more manufacturers make more variants of 9mm 1911 pistols than the last few years. Even the old school 1911 guys like Bill Wilson carry 9mm 1911s.

That's because their arthritic hands can't take anymore 45 ACP.

I lifted today, but good gawd just looking at all that dead-weight of steel right there makes my back ache.

Strangely, fondling my Glock 19 makes the pain suddenly dissipate.

Hmmmm.
