Auction says it was factory stainless from 1978, but then admits they are not sure and that it may have been refinished?  What does the finish look like to you?  Chrome?  What do you figure it's worth in that condition?

What type of finish?  What do you think it is worth like that?

Colt didn't begin making stainless steel Pythons until late Fall 1982.
Colt did make "Royal Coltguard" electroless nickel in the late 70's.  This has the distinctive "amber" or yellow tint of nickel.
The Python's Royal Coltguard was shiner then standard Coltguard.

That finish does not appear to be Royal Coltguard.
Colt didn't plate the front sight or rear sight with Royal Coltguard.
The finish appears to be hard chrome, which is the best of all gun finishes as far as durability goes.
Before Colt brought out stainless Pythons, hard chrome was a popular finish.

Nickel = slight yellow tone, especially noticeable in indirect sunlight

Stainless = Not a finish but a material, usually not a bright and 'silvery' as chrome or, sure, silver

Chrome = Light silvery color, harder than stainless and resists polishing more

I've been fooled by chrome vs. stainless, especially when polished they look very similar but chrome is always a bit more 'white' than stainless.

Hard-chrome. Exactly like one of my old model 19's that had been so finished. When you look at teh auction pics, you can see corrosion on the front sight blade where it's buggered-up.
