For those of you that have a P99, which Gen do you have?  I’m torn between wanting the Gen 1 or Gen 2.

I like the aesthetics of the Gen 1 best, but the longer mag release of the Gen 2 looks to be more “accessible.”

I have had both. The gen 2 is nicer. The trigger was way better, slide is easier to grip, mag release.

I’m very happy with my gen 2. I actually prefer it over the ppq and the pdp.

Love my Gen 2. Probably my favorite handgun.

No experience with Gen 1 - other than looking at one in a display case.

I appreciate all the input, gentlemen!

I now have a Gen 1 in OD and a BNIB Gen 2.  I will pick them both up tomorrow at the GS and decide if I want to sell one or keep them both.

The GS has already offered to buy the Gen 2 from me.

Without a doubt Gen 1

You have a gen 1. One easy way to spot the difference between the two is the gen 1 has that small hump on the bottom of the trigger guard which the gen 2 lacks.

I have both.  The late P99 AS is undoubtedly the better pistol.  No silly glove protector in the bottom of the trigger guard, far better trigger, easier long paddle mag release.  Not that the 1st. gen are bad, but the second generation pistols are better.

I am hunting a black 1st gen personally

The first gen is worth more but the 2nd gen is widely regarded as a better pistol. Both great though

Gen 1 is more collectible. Gen 2 is more practical for actual shooting.

Just out of curiosity, is there a Gen 1 P99QA?

Both of mine are gen1.  Got one (.40) in 2002, and the other (9mm) in 2003ish.  Well, I mean I had them.  Of course I don't have them anymore.

But when I did, I loved the 9mm.  Very good shooter.

yup. that's what I have. shorty mag lever, "titanium" slide and black bottom. Love that bastard and wish threaded barrels didn't cost what the whole gun did.

I have a gen I I love; I only bought it as I am a Walther fanboy and even more than that, a James Bond fanboy.

There were actually 2 versions of the Gen.1. The early version Gen.1 had a different articulating or split trigger. If you look up on the Walther forums they sometimes call the later Gen1 the Gen 1.5.

My Walther P99 and P99c are both second generation.. I also have an MR9 that's probably closer to a second generation P99.

All three are amazing

Where did you get your slide refinished? Nice looking gun.

I still want one, but not at the silly 700 bucks they are trying to get on gunbroker. I would prefer a gen 1, I had a wtb add here with 2 views in a month.

I have been tempted to just get a 40 as they seem to be cheaper, but like the looks of the cuts on the front of the slide on the 9mm.

Well I found a great deal on a gen 2, comes with a threaded and a stock barrel and trijicon night sights with 2 mags for 650.

It should be at the LGS in a few days.

The P99 might be the most underrated polymer pistol out there. NIB Gen 2’s are plentiful at the moment, and at 6-1/2 to 7 bills are fairly priced considering that’s about what they went for back when the Gen 1’s debuted.

I got into P99’s because of the Gen 1’s aesthetics and mine’s just a range toy, so the Gen 1 is it for me. The bad news is they’ve pretty much doubled in value in the last few years for whatever reason.

Gen 1 for collectors and Gen 2 for shooters

Nice, you'll love it - IMO they make great can hosts. Right when the PPQ was introduced the P99 and PPQ barrels were interchangeable so you could buy a PPQ threaded barrel kit (with recoil spring assembly as well) and get a factory threaded barrel that way. Sadly not long after that, they changed the PPQ's barrel and slide to their current types...not compatible with the P99 anymore. That was what I wound up doing for mine, and it works great.

The finish of my P99 slide was originally from Walther. I bought my P99 about 24 years ago when Walther released a limited number of P99 with "Titanium Coat" finish. Fortunately, my P99 did not have the ugly "Titanium Coat" banner on its slide like the earlier version of this finish.

Id have guessed it was a “QPQ” model. I had one long ago

You have a Gen “1.5”. You have the second trigger on the Gen1. The first trigger on the Gen1 had a groove on the top left side where it pivoted.
