Here a picture of an old S&W that my father in law gave my son.

Probably 32 Hand Ejector 3rd Model made from 1911 until 1942, serial number range is 263001 to 536684. The no medallion stocks hint at an 1920's production date; if so the serial number would be over 320000 and the cylinder would be heat-treated for strength. Earlier guns didn't have their cylinders heat-treated as that operation just wasn't done by S&W until after about 1920.

Thanks for the information.  It's timing and lock up it very good and the bore is perfect.   It was my wifes great grandfather's.  I am guessing it would be safe to shoot with low power ammo. We still have some old French made ammo that came with it.

Regards

Very nice.

As long as it locks up well with minimal end shake, it's perfectly fine to shoot with any factory .32 S&W or .32 S&W Long ammo, or handloaded equivalent.

.32 S&W Long is a real joy to shoot. Even in small revolvers recoil isn't much more than .22 LR. Plus it's easy and cheap to reload for.

If it's legal in your state, .32 S&W Long also makes a good small game round.

This was Dad's. It was poorly refinished at some point, and I haven't shot it in years.
Serial #517xxx.

Cool! I’ve been looking to pick up something similar to shoot up the ammo I have. Love to find a beater for a reasonable price.

You would be surprised at the accuracy of these old things.
I've an old beater with an even longer barrel that will put 1 out of 6 on a 9x13" plate at 100 yards.
Pow.............................paating.
And I purchase 327 magnum revolvers just to shoot nice 32 longs from.
Such a nice little mild cartridge.

I have a 1903 first batch with pinned sight, picked it up for $150! just before COVID.
