I saw this and wondered if it was the .440 Corbon under a different name. Apparently the shoulder angle is different, and I’m not sure if the neck is longer or shorter.

Ammoland .429 DE article

It would be interesting to see if there is any real performance difference between the .440 Corbon and the .429 DE.

And it sounds like they are only releasing it in a 6” barrel and maybe only with the muzzle brake (effectively 5” of rifling). I think a 10” barrel might be more interesting for those wanting to get the most velocity possible.

Boy, I really was hopeful for more pistol calibers. (That's sarcasm btw)

I had a factory 440 DE (not a barrel conversion) for awhile and we made about a dozen AR uppers in 440 back in 1999.  I don't recall the exact numbers but I believe a 240gr bullet hit 2,000fps from a 17" barrel.
I still have 440 dies, brass, ammo etc on hand.  If I can get a round of 429 DE, I'll report the differences.

It would be interesting to see if it gives any advantage over .50AE.

Thanks Tony. Your perspective is always appreciated.

Did you happen to get any velocity data from the Desert Eagle when you had it?  I've seen the published numbers for the .440 at 1800 fps. for a 240 gr. bullet. But advertised numbers are sometimes a little optimistic, with actual velocities being a bit slower.

I found it interesting that the new cartridge only lists 240 gr. ammo at 1600 fps.  Where the two apper to be essentially the same cartridge, I wonder why the 200 fps. difference. Is the .429 loaded to a lower pressure?  Or are they just more realistic about advertised velocities.

I don't recall ever putting the 440 over the Chrono.  I only fired it a couple of times since it had a tendency to hurl the empty cases straight back into my face.  And no, there was no limp wristing going on.  It ejected into my face even with a death grip on it.

Still waiting to see if M.R. has the yarbells to market a 10mm Magnum DE, with spare upper barrel units in 10mm AUTO and .40 S&W.

M.R./IMI once had a .41 Magnum in the line-up, so a 10mm Magnum DE, from a COAL perspective, wouldn't be that much of a stretch. They probably could use the same magazines as well.

The 10mm Magnum will run in a 41 Mag DE magazine with a new/modified follower.

I built a 10mm Mag M1 Carbine many years ago and used a 41 DE mag in it.

I played around a bit with a 440 Corbon case gauge, Go-Gauge, and some factory HSM 429DE ammo.
Without a 429DE chamber reamer drawing, I can only make an estimate, but you'll have about .016" head space if you fire a factory HSM 429DE round in a 440 CorBon chamber.
I prefer the head space to be around .003" and not more than .006".
