The AE TMJ may actually be fine in the M&P. I noted a nice healthy polished feedramp. I've run 7500rds of 5.7 over the last 3 yrs, and I've had less than 10 AE failures regarding the dreaded set back. That failure % is LOW. Is it under powered trash? Yep, but at least in my 11 5.7 guns doesn't seem to be an issue.

|
|
[#11]
Look I don't have as much experience with the 5.7 as you guys do but, that AE can be salvaged.
If you reload, a good firm crimp can be applied with a Lee factory crimp die. Yeah a guy shouldn't need to. It also took the lot I have from all over a pie plate size down to 1 1\2" or so groups. And now I have 3 of these things. |

Ok. Another 200 today and three problems. All at different times. All different mags. All federal red box. The case got stuck in the chamber, live round. Gun would not go bang and I had the to hammer the slide back out of battery to eject the stuck round. Have no idea why they are sticking.

Back when I played with x25 chambered pistols, a lot of that surplus had flaired and or boffed necks.
It would feed most of the way in the chamber but not extract if one didn't go off. Since they can't be bothered to crimp that stuff, maybe that's what's going on. Or the case is too long in the neck. Or the chamber is tight. |

I don’t think the chamber is too tight because this has only happens a few times out of hundreds and hundreds of rounds. I’ll do a really good cleaning of it. Especially the chamber

Well. I did a major cleaning on the barrel. Soaked in hoppes then scrubbed it down again. I’m out of carb and brake cleaner. It was caked ! So we will see what happens next range trip.

There was a rumor on reddit that the M&P 5.7 might actually be able to run 5.7 without the casings being coated / lacquered.
No idea if true, but that would be a positive development. My buddies FsN MKII will only run reloads with the cases lubed, its that sensitive to coatings. And he's an extremely accomplished and experienced reloader of oddball/bottleneck cartridges. |

just picked up an M&P57. Now to get a red dot for it too (none of the ones I currently have "unused" fit, like the Eotech EFLX, naturally...)
I also have a decent amount of AE 5.7 on hand, and a Lee Factory Crimp die for 5.7. I'm thinking about running the AE through the crimp die for "just a touch" of crimping so see how it works..... |

What would that accomplish on factory ammo??

Fastest Factory FN loading: SS198LF. You're looking at 2,050-2,200 fps out of the handguns depending on temperature and barrel length, and upwards of 2,500 fps from a 16".
Fastest round personally tested by myself exclusive of manufacturer's claims: Elite Ammo's S4, and T6B. I've clocked the S4/M/UR variant at 2,400-2,450 fps from the handguns. I've clocked the 28gr variant of T6B going 2,375-2,400 fps from the pistol. It's been a long time since I've used T6B. At one time it was 32gr, then he cut the weight back down. |

The barrier performance claims of EA's super rare copper choice really haven't been quantified as being any better than BDF. The softer copper in the BDF and lower speed will lose out to the T6B against soft armor though. I truly wish a bigger agency would demo the copper exotic loads and give us more data to see which one would come out on top. |

Have you noticed any difference between the two alloys as far as fragmentation in gel tests? I can't decide if I think the softer alloy would break up more reliably or at lower velocity, or if the harder one would due to brittleness? |
