Thoughts?
Do you carry
Light and fast ammo regardless of caliber VS slow and heavy ammo regardless of caliber
Is a 1100 fps 125 gr 38 special better than 750 fps 175 gr. 39 special.
Same with any other caliber.
I subscribe to the slow a heavy camp.
175 grain 38 sp.  230 grain 45 acp,  147 grain 9mm et
Thoughts from anyone?

I like heavier in most pistols . 124 in 9mm, 230 in 45.

I tend to go mid-heavy on on the weight range
That seems to give the most reliable penetration while still having acceptable expansion, but I always prioritize penetration over expansion
9mm 124/135/147
10mm 165/180
5.56 64/69

I mix it for 9mm I have 124gr Gold Dots, 115 and 147 FMJs. 45acp is 230gr only and 10mm has 180 or 200.

The wise ass in me wants to say fast and heavy.

In reality the math and science guys indicate that most medium power calibers function in a similar way.

Smart thinking indicates you have to hit the bad guy where you need to so one question is what round/gun do you shoot best?

Science and stats be dammed but I tend to trust a medium heavy bullet for its penetration over some kind of exotic majic bullet

Tend to agree here what you hit is more important what it is hit with. Shot placement first. Power ( within reason) second.

I also don’t have much confidence in the latest “high tech” bullet flavor of the week in super light weights.

I go what I would call “standard” or traditional weights -148-158 for 38/357,124 for 9mm 230 for 45.

I follow the philosophy of Duncan McPherson.  Relatively heavy.

Shot placement and sufficient penetration are paramount, all else is secondary.
All handguns are relatively poor 'stoppers' regardless of caliber or bullet used so use the combo you shoot best.

A hole in the heart, lungs or center of the head gets the job done ,so shot placement and pentation is where it's at no matter the speed or weight of the bullet.

A 300gr WFN Cast bullet in a 45 colt doing 900fps will just about travel the length of a Brow Bear.

Alright, I'll play devil's advocate! I like light and fast as long as I can actually get those speeds. 115-124 for 9mm, 110-125 38 spl, 155-165 for 40 S&W. I don't have a 45 but I would go 230 grain for that. I like light weight bullets for full to compact size guns. J-frames and micro guns get heavy for caliber weights. I see less loss of speed in small guns with heavier bullets.
