I just got a S&W 625 and need to get some moon clips and a clip loader. Are any of the moon clips better than others? I see Wilson, Speed-Beez, TK, and plastic clips, what do you prefer? Also, because I have delicate hands (aka I'm a sissy), what is the better clip loader? Shooting a 45 acp revolver without clips is a real pain in the butt. So what do I need?

The plastic clips easily accept and release rounds. They’re fine for trips to the square range. But, they are flexible and not meant for matches or carrying.

The spring metal clips are durable. Any of the good names will work well.

A company used to make a demooner. Mine works well. I’m surprised someone isn’t making something similar.

Speed-Beez makes something that looks like it would work well.

I have a bunch of TK custom clips and revolver supply clips. The RS clips are holding up just as well and much cheaper. Their clip loader has been working well as well.

Moonclips rule!

Moonclips for rimless cartridges, like 45 ACP, are much more robust and less picky than moonclips for rimmed cartridges.

For 45 ACP and 10/40 there is no point in paying the price of TK Custom moonclips.  Ranch Products moonclips are cheap and work great for these rimless cartridges.  Go direct to Ranch Products website and order in bulk for the best price.

TK Custom moonclips are awesome moonclips for rimmed cartridges.  Given how much more finicky the fitting is you can select moonclips that match with the brass your using.  A close second place for me is Revolver Supply.  I am currently running Revolver Supply with my 627.  I am running TK Custom with my 442 as I believe they are the only manufacture of them.  I also believe they are the OEM for the J-frames.

Moonclips tools are easily made at home.  Hollow golf club handles make awesome demooners.  A cheap pair of channel lock pliers will work to load the moonclips in a pinch.  There are lots of tools you can buy with various degrees of usability.  That said if you want the Cadillac of moonclip tools then the BMT mooners are the tools you seek.  Their tool for rimmed cartridges are spectacular and their tools for rimless are nearly as good.

Currently competing with a 625, so have been around and through a lot of moonclips lol.

Moonclips:
TK Custom - most expensive and from what I have seen have the best finish without a lot of extra "roll" on the flat side.  Rounds go in and are held well (but are able to be turned and moved) and snap out crisply.
Revolver Supply - much cheaper and are easily 99% as good as TK.  Same as TK - rounds go in well and snap our crisply.

I use both of these company moonclips for all bigger matches.  That being said I still check each moonclip before I load it for a match.  I check each on a flat table looking for any kinds of bends or damage.  Unless they get stepped on or you are really honking on them to get rounds in or out - they last forever just about.  Currently in my second season using the 625, I have lost I think 2 moonclips total and that is because I or someone stepped on them and bent them all to hell.

Honorable mention:  Ranch moonclips (Uniquetek sells them) these are even cheaper than Revolver Supply and so far they are a fantastic deal.  They are a little tighter on my brass than TK or RS and they seem to have a little more "roll" of metal on the flat side and just a little less refined than TK or RS but I have used them for locals now for a while and they have all loaded and been fine.

Tools:
I bought a loading tool from TK and have never used it.  Bought an unloading tool from Brownells/TK and only use it sporadically.  If you are looking for the easiest and smoothest way to load and unload moonclips - Go buy a BMT Mooner.  Trust me, it will pay for itself in your happiness within a short amount of time.

I just ordered a loader from BMT along with the large pack of moon clips from Ranch Products. I have plenty of .45 ACP ammo, so as soon as the stuff gets here I will be loading up moon clips. Thanks to a bunch of enablers, the ole credit card is smoking.

I wanted to add that I got the Ranch Products moon clips and the BMT loader today. The clips are perfect and priced right, but that BMT loader is the tits! How can anybody with a moon clip gun live without one? You guys were right again!!!
