I have been debating for the past year or two what to get for my first 1911. My bother bought a new blued Gold Cup a year ago.he and I put around 50 rounds through it after he bought it and he hasn't shot it since then. He decided he wanted something different and offered it to me for $850. I think that is a fair price and i can't think of a better gun at that price. I should be getting it tomorrow!

Congrats on owning the finest pistol design known to man.

Some say the Big Bang was actually God firing the 1911 for the first time.

Shot my first one in the US Army in 1978.  1911A1.

Bought my first one later than year.  Colt 1911 with the US Government Property stamping on the frame.  Made in 1917, by the serial number.

Bought another one in 1981 or 82.  A Colt Combat Commander.  Duty pistol for a couple years before moving to a S&W M29 followed by a department mandated S&W 686 (I think my Chief got scared, I was carrying my M29 and one of the other patrolman who couldn't hit the 4ft by 4ft plywood we stapled the targets to got a 6" M29 and that put an end to the .44's).

Got a stainless steel Colt Series 80 Government Model in 1987 or 88.

Still have all 4.  Don't shoot any of them now.  These days I carry a CZ cocked and locked.

I got my first 1911 last year. Then came the second. Then came the third. Then a crap-ton of mags. Then a couple or 4 holsters. Then .45 ammo every time I catch a deal. It certainly is a fun disease.

Sounds like a pretty good deal to me...and I agree you will only buy more from this point on.

Solid deal. Now buy some Wilson mags, some good kydex or leather and a couple cases of ammo

Colt Gold Cup is the best introduction to 1911's.

That's a great deal for the money.

If you have any inclination to fully understand and appreciate what you have, order the Jerry Kuhnhausen books.

The GC will spoil you badly on 1911's. To get that quality in construction you're going to be paying a wee bit more and there are some very expensive 1911's out there for the taking.

I'm a big fan of the Colt Competition series pistols and the 1991A1's. Great value.
