Well, basically stole it anyways.

Found it on consignment for $300 at a nearby Turners Outdoorsman. It pained me to give them my business but these are not on the CA Handgun Roster, so this is a screamin deal.

Made and assembled in Germany, imported by Smith & Wesson around 1999, as near as I can tell. Triple serialed, with the "Eagle over N" stamping, and a S&W rollmark on the slide.

I was wondering, are these first gens good out of the box, or are there upgrades/triggers I should be looking at to get the most out of it?

Not sure, but great deal.
For some reason, S&W really didn't promote these back then.

They were too busy pushing the Sigmas and those ugly-ass "Chief's Special" semi-autos.

Great price, I hope you have enough mags. They're pricey.

Buy MR9 mags instead.  Usually priced less.

I'm noticing that

Pistol only came with one, but had all the other parts and docs including the box, the three front sights, a couple tools, and the original import papers.

I hear they are tack drivers.

Good grab.

Nice find OP!  I've got 3 newer Walthers, but would buy a P99 at that price in a heartbeat.

Great pistol, sorry you're restricted (or constricted) when it comes to magazine capacity.

Yes, you stole it. Congrats OP.

I have 2 AS's in green & black. 2 of my
favorite pistols.

Great find!  I would have bought it, too.

$300 for that at Turners?! That is a smoking deal. That could have easily sold for double quickly on calguns.

I have the trijicon HD night sights on mine. They are great even though I have never been a fan of how the rear sight is just held in place by a spring and plunger.

Some how I consistently shoot the p99 better than any other pistol. Congrats on the find here in CA.

I had one just like that. I got rid of it because I couldn't get used to the DA/SA trigger. It was atrocious.

I too had one.   I too disliked the trigger and got rid of it.

My sis has a P99AS and I really like it.  I don't like the mag release but the ergonomics were great for my hand.  Felt great to shoot and shot great as well.  Kind of ugly IMO but I'd buy one for that money without a second to think about it.  They aren't well known but very good guns.

I’ve got a 40 of that same gen. They’re great shooters.

I have the same green frame .40.  Well, mine is one of the 5000 they made with S&W slides (no proof mark), so not exactly the same one. It’s a great pistol.

Nice score!

Fyi, Magnum Research MR9 magazines are interchangeable; it uses a slightly different textured P99 frame and a different slide, but the mags are %100 identical. If P99 mags are expensive, you might try to hunt for MR9 mags instead.

Assuming yours is in 9mm

I picked up a 9x19mmP Walther 99QA from CDNN many years ago when they had them dirt cheap because no one wanted the QA.

While I would still prefer the AS, I've found that I still like the 99QA quite a bit and can shoot it better than I expected.

Keep in mind that the S&W M99 (a slightly restyled Walther P99) uses the same mags as the Walther P99.  So does the Walther PPQ M1 if you happen to have one.  The PPQ M2 uses a different mag...

Congrats. The p99 is my favorite full sized polymer framed pistol.

I bought a P99 several years ago and I haven't bought a pistol since. I really like it.

Nice score on a great pistol: accurate and dependable and ergonomic before the word was popular.

After years of owning these Walthers, picking up a Glock just seems like holding the butt end of a 2x4.

I have that same gun in all black. I would have scoop up that OD without hesitation at that price. Mine is like almost 20 yrs old. Has not given me any issues and l love the trigger. It is the most accurate gun out of all the polymer guns I own.

P99 is still the most stylish of the Polymer pistols.

Is this a 9mm or a .40 ?
CDNN had  .40 m1 mags for $9.99 ea.

Should be a .40.  The front of the slide is “shaved” off just a little on the 9mm models.
MecGar mags are good to go if you can find them.  Great pistols, very ergonomic. I love the trigger on them.

Nice. I have a gen 2 with easily 15k rounds through it. No issues and got me into shooting on a serious basis. Wish I could find a threaded barrel that costs less than what you’re into that gun

I have a p99c that's my everyday carry gun.... I've been looking for a full size Walther P99 I have not been able to find one but I did run across an MR9 at the gun show today.... Few minutes of googling I found out that it's a licensed copy of the p99 and then the magazines interchange, it had to come home with me.
