Well, its used, but lightly, like new, with a thumb safety. But I've never handled one before and am buying sight unseen. Living on the edge. Anyway, what brought me to this gun were several realizations, starting with not liking DA/SA triggers, then it was going predominantly .45 acp, having to have a 1911, or 1911's. Then wanting more ammo capacity. This is where I got a G45, holds lots of ammo, but its 9mm and no thumb safety. Previously owning Glock 21's, although I shot them extremely well, they are on the large side of the spectrum. I never liked carrying them with a round in the chamber either, I wanted a manual safety for that peace of mind. So the field was narrowed down considerably. The Springfield Armory XD-M's looked promising, but no thumb safety models that I could find. There are the 2011 or Para-Ord double stack 1911 options, but I suspect they're on the expensive side. I've never been interested in the M&P line, but I'm about to figure it out, hope I won't be disappointed.

Nice pistol. Mine is a 4.6 barrel. Trigger won't be like a tuned 1911 but 10 with one up the spout is good. Holsters are hard to pickup. I wetmolded one for a glock 17 fits great.  Made in USA and quality gun.  Enjoy.

I like my 4.6” so much that I’m toying with getting a 4” as well.
I never really shot Glocks that well, but I respect the functionality and aftermarket support. On a whim I picked up a 2.0 compact 9 a couple years ago because the price was too good not to. A full size 5” 9 and the 4.6 45 were in hands within a month, and the Glocks were all sold off.
The M&P just fits me so much better, and they are easier for me to shoot.

ETA:
Police trade mags are cheap and plentiful(AIM surplus), stack em deep

thats been my experience too.  I only have one Glock now, its a 48, great gun.  but I have a full size .45 2.0, a .45 Shield, two 2.0 9mm & two 9mm Shields.  Glocks are great guns, but S&W came out with guns that just fit me better.
Watch the EE for mags, I have gotten some smoking good deals there, some as little as $11.

I just snagged one with the 4.6” barrel myself, plus an extra mag at the shop, and just ordered 5 of the used mags off aimsurplus.

Super pumped to warm this thing up!!!

Congrats OP

Already snatched a few up off of Aimsurplus, great deal! I cut my teeth on Glocks and love them, but I never felt comfortable carrying with a loaded chamber and no manual safety. I know the rule, no finger on the trigger until ready to fire, it's just a personal peace of mind thing for me.
From my research, this model doesn't measure out to be much larger than my G45, I hope this is true.

I've got 1.0, 2.0 full sized in 9MM, .357 SIG (1.0), .40 (1.0) and .45 (2.0).

Same safariland holster works for all of them (the 5" 9s do stick out the bottom, but the holster lock feature works and the pistol won't come out till you press the button to release the pistol.

If you can't live with the 2.0 trigger the Apex trigger kit will give you an awesome trigger feel.  Awesome.  My 2.0's with Apex triggers feel better than some of my CZ pistols.

As mentioned by a previous poster, jump on those used police magazines (10 round) at Aim Surplus.  They won't last forever.

I picked up some 14 round mags. for mine a year or so back with some vendor was clearing them out at around $12 or $14 each.  Makes the grip longer but gives you four more rounds.  Hey, if you just went through 10 rounds and need that reload who really cares if the grip looks longer/odd?  You just need more ammo, now.

Glad I found this post.

I've been thinking about switching to one from the p365xl

The thumb safety is one big reason (I always get nervous with one in the pipe around my kids and dog). There's no reason to be nervous...but I am.

I'm also in NY so I'm limited to 10 in the mag. Might as well be 45 instead of 9mm.

That was my thinking a couple years back when I bought mine.  VA was dim/lib/prog/socialist controlled in the state government and threatening 10 round mag limits.  I figured it I was only going to be legal carrying 10 rounds it was going to be 10 big rounds.  In the end that shit failed to go anywhere and the .45 is in the safe till I get some other stuff figured out.  In my preliminary shooting I decided it was accurate enough to be worth a red dot and that may happen sometime this year if I can get around to shooting it more.

I'll be looking at a red dot too. I have a spare holosun kicking around that I may toss on it.

I picked it up today, looks brand new, feels great! The trigger break is harder than on my G45 before the Zev trigger install, but don't think it'll make it hard to shoot accurately.
Can't wait to shoot it, will post range report.

Before I bought the M&P 45 M2.0 Compact I wanted to compare it to the Glock model 45 to see the size difference. But without holding them both in your hand and only going by pics there's no real way to tell absolutely. I decided to take a few pics of them side by side to give a size comparison between the two, the only big difference is in the slide width where the M&P is slightly wider. The frame on the M&P appears to be slimmer than the G45 in some areas, but the ambi manual safety just makes it wider nonetheless. The G45 with fully loaded mag, 17 rounds, weighed exactly 2lbs, the M&P weighed in at 2.34lbs with full mag, 10 rounds.
Overall, the M&P is not significantly larger in any dimension than the Glock 45 and holds 10 rounds of .45 acp.

Congrats that’s a beauty!!! I can’t wait to shoot mine again soon, probably the most fun I’ve had in a couple years with a new pistol.

Not too bad for first time out, the grip texture on the M2.0's is like 20 grit sand paper, not as abrasive but tolerable. The trigger break seems hard when dry firing, but didn't have too much of an affect firing it. I ran about 200 rounds through it, the only problem was the slide didn't lock back on one mag when it went empty, otherwise it ran like a top.

The M&P .45 is basically a M&P 9mm with a longer front to back grip.

It uses something like 80% of the same parts(Striker, locking block, trigger bar, ejector and channel liner) are I think the only differences.

Great pics and size comparison!  I think the M&P 2.0 45 is one of the best-sized pistols chambered in 45 -- it is way more svelt and slim than others, such as the Glock 21 which feels like a holding a 2x4 to me.

Thanks, I've owned several Glock 21's, they are the most accurate pistols I have ever shot, but like you said, they have very large grips and are just large guns overall.

Shoot it anymore OP?

I’ve got a little over 300 rounds through mine so far, perfect function!!

Have a set of ameriglo sights inbound for mine also, it will be finished and just getting shot after that.

I just picked up one of the new M&P 2.0 in 10mm.  It's my understanding the 10mm uses the 45 frame, so basically a grip with longer front to back dimensions.  This pistol fits my hand much, much better than any previous 10mm or 45 polymer frame pistol (I'm looking at you Glock!).

I think the 10mm M&P is going to cause me to get to an M&P in 45.  I load plenty of .45 acp to feed a couple of 1911s, so figure I might as well have a 45 carry gun as well.

As a typical glock lover myself I love my M&P in 45! I had a gen 1 back in the day and liked it but the frame was slick and sort of mis aligned. The 2.0 is amazing and perfect with a set of ameriglo bold sights.

All my 1.0 frames get Talon Grips.  They are much too slick otherwise.  I actually prefer a 1.0 grip with Talon grips for compact sized carry as the Talon grips feel better on lovehandles than 2.0 grip texture

I should have put talon grips on it and kept it yes!! Alas, I went back a couple days later and my LGS had sold it right after I traded it in.

I do love the Gen4 G21, but I like the M&P better in 45 and it shoots so nice!
