I was struggling to put my 1911 back together tonight after a clean and this little part broke.  Can anyone please let me know what this is so I can get a replacement for it?  It looks like a series 80 safety part?! For a Remington 1911 R1 enhanced.  Thanks!

You have eliminated the weakest part.  Now the gun is stronger as a whole.

Can break when you put on the slide and lever is not pushed down flush with the rails first.

You could do a 70 series conversion by just filing down the top part of that lever and removing the firing pin block from the slide, removing that safety from the gun.  Or replace that lever with a TJ filler as suggested above.

Or you can keep it stock / series 80, and replace the lever with a new one, to maintain that safety, which is what I would suggest.

Normally series 80 hammers are missing the hook notches that series 70 hammers have which functioned as a failsafe, that was eliminated when the series 80 firing pin block was created.

Is that a swartz system? Someone was pressing the beavertail
Safety while putting the slide on?

Series 80. Swartz is actuated off the grip safety.

Remove series 80 parts and install necessary frame fillers.

I’ve decided to do a series 70 conversion and not mess with the series 80 garbage.  Thanks for all the help!
