Have a 1975ish Colt Cobra I got from a retired guy, it was his carry piece from 75-05. He said the recoil shield fell out when dry firing in 2009 and he hasn't shot it since. Who is the best gunsmith to refit a recoil shield for a revolver of this age / type? Colt's website advises they won't work on anything that old unless it is an SAA or 1911.

Cylinder & Slide might be an option. Turnbull Restoration may be another.

There are only two pistolsmiths the members of the Colt forum will recommend.  Both do Colt work to factory standards and with factory techniques.....

Frank Glenn is an American Handgunner magazine Top 100 pistolsmith who's well known for his Colt revolver work.
His pricing, turnaround times, and quality of work is top of the line.

Spartan's Len Specklin was trained at the Colt factory by legendary Colt Master Don Tedford and has at least some factory new parts.

These are the only two I'd recommend if you want it done right.
